Vanta leaned in. Just as he was about to kiss Hera, the phone in her hand suddenly rang.
Startled, Hera immediately opened her eyes and saw Vanta's face close up. She kicked him instinctively.
Vanta was unable to dodge in time. He stumbled two steps back before regaining his balance. Seeing Hera's icy gaze made him quickly lift his hands in surrender as he explained, "Sorry. I saw you fell asleep and was about to carry you back to bed."
Hera gazed at him suspiciously before looking at the caller ID. She scowled slightly and did not answer the call.
"You should sleep early. I'm going to bed." With that, she turned to head upstairs.
Vanta stared at her figure greedily. The fingers that had grazed Hera's lips rubbed back and forth. He was so close.
Hera returned to the room. Just as the call was about to disconnect, she finally answered. Bernard spoke accusingly before she could even say a word, "What took you so long to answer your phone?"
Hera thought she was considerate enough to answer his call and clucked her tongue. "It's midnight. Why aren't you asleep yet? Hunting for ghosts?"
Bernard faltered upon hearing her impatient tone before asking, "Were you sleeping?"
Hera retorted, "What else would I be doing?"
"Sleeping alone?" Bernard continued.
Hera asked, "Mr. Killian, do you have nothing else to do?"
Why was he being so nosy?
Her words irritated Bernard instantly. "I'm just reminding you of who you belong to!"
Hera chuckled before asking, "Who do I belong to? I thought what we have is a fling. Or are we lovers now?"
Bernard snorted. Regardless of which it was, that didn't make Hera his wife.
"Esther, are you hungry? Do you want some supper?" Vanta asked. He had come upstairs and pushed Hera's door ajar.
Hera turned back and realized that she hadn't locked the door earlier. She frowned before covering her phone. "No need. I'm going to bed."
Even if Bernard and Hera were just lovers, he refused to let anyone touch her as long as he wasn't bored of her yet.
At that moment, there was a knock on the office door. Samson walked into the office and asked, "Bernard, what should we do about those outside?"
As soon as Samson entered, he could feel the tension in the room. Despite the room being heated, it was still rather cold.
He then glanced at Bernard seated at the office desk. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked as terrifying as a demon from hell.
Samson couldn't help but tremble. Before Bernard could even speak, Samson began to utter a few seconds of prayer for those outside.
Although they hadn't made any grave mistakes, they were simply unlucky to have encountered Bernard at the worst time possible.
"Should we schedule an appointment to get rid of them?" Bernard retorted icily.
"I'll handle them," Samson answered before hurrying out of the office. He was terrified that he would end up dead as well if he stayed any longer.
