When Bernard, Aaron, and their men reached the cave, they froze as they saw a woman with disheveled hair and thin clothes fighting eight of the members of the search party.
She was injured all over her body, and on the ground around her lay several wolves and a few other search party members. They looked like their lives were hanging on a thread.
"Oh no!" Aaron shoved the car door open when he saw the state Hera was in. He quickly warned the men who were getting ready for battle. "Don't get anywhere near her! Don't provoke her!"
At this moment, he was more concerned about her nyctophobia condition than the fact that she was standing in a wolf den.
After fighting for so long, the search party members who fought Hera finally realized that they shouldn't continue provoking her. It had come to their realization that they'd only get beaten up if they did.
Unfortunately for them, they couldn't run away from her at this point. She was running after them and beating them up. The whole situation was chaotic.
Bernard saw Hera fighting for her life against the search party members despite the numerous cuts and bruises all over her body. She didn't seem tired or in pain in the least.
Bernard froze as he stared at her unblinkingly, unable to react.
The sight felt so familiar to him. It looked exactly the same as the scene that flashed through his mind all of a sudden.
He tried to recall more of his past but failed, and his head started to hurt because of that. All of a sudden, his nose twitched, and he felt something warm trickle out of his nostrils.
The liquid dripped onto his hand as he wiped it away. It was blood. He stared at his hand in a daze, then looked out the window at Hera, who fought as if she were possessed.
Bernard felt as if his heart was being run over by a truck. It caused him so much pain that he couldn't breathe. Even his fingers started trembling.
A voice rang in the recesses of his mind. "Sweetie… Sweetie… "
"Bernard!" Douglas noticed this and quickly turned around in his seat to wipe the blood from Bernard's face. As he did so, he pulled his phone out from his pocket to call Johnson.
He wanted to ask where Johnson was but realized that his phone had no signal.
"Just do it," Johnson told the search party leader. "Leave the rest to me."
The leader was very much relieved to hear that. Under Aaron's command, the search party made a trap and finally shot Hera in the leg with the tranquilizer.
A while later, Hera stopped lashing out and attacking. She stood still with her head bowed as she stared at the bloody dagger in her hands. The air around her turned eerie and unsettling.
This dose of tranquilizer was enough to make a fully grown bear collapse, yet Hera still had the energy to stand there. Did the tranquilizer have no effect on her?
"Ms. Youngworth?" Aaron asked tentatively, but the only response he received was the howling of the wind.
Bernard started walking toward Hera, but Johnson stopped him. "Bernard, let's wait for a bit longer and see if the tranquilizer works."
But Bernard didn't seem to hear Johnson because he continued to step over the unconscious search party members and approach Hera. When he reached her, he pulled her into his arms and muttered, "Sweetie… Sweetie… "
