Bernard pulled his hands tightly around Hera. Her clothes were thin, and her body felt very warm. It was like hugging a ball of fire. Her body temperature just wasn't normal at all.

He quickly slid off his coat and draped it across her shoulders. "Sweetie?"

Hera did not respond, so he cupped her face and brushed the stray strands of hair that were soaked with sweat away from her face.

He could see the thin layer of frost on her eyelashes. Her eyes were bloodshot, but her stare was unfocused. A creepy smile hung on her lips, making her look all the more terrifying.

Bernard's focus was on a cut on her cheek. Her cheeks were red from the cold, and the blood that oozed out of one of the cuts even started freezing.

It pained him, so he caressed her cheek with his thumb. Just then, a muffled grunt escaped his mouth.

Looking down, he saw that the blade of the dagger in her hands had pierced through his skin and into his body. Crimson stained the white fabric of his clothes like a flower blooming in spring.

"Bernard!" Aaron and Johnson called out, moving toward Bernard.

Hera's alarmed eyes snapped to Aaron and Johnson. Seeing this, Bernard quickly raised his hand and gestured for them to stop moving.

"Don't be scared, sweetie," Bernard said softly, pressing Hera's head against his chest. "I'm right here."

Johnson, Aaron, and the search party could only watch from beside with their hearts in their throats. The search party leader muttered under his breath, "Is this for real? Our tranquilizer didn't work? Is she a mutant or an alien?"

"Ms. Youngworth studied medicine. Tranquilizers and sedatives are no big deal to her," Johnson explained.

"But that's an enhanced version of a tranquilizer."

"I know, but tranquilizers take time to have an effect."

"Um… " Speechless, the search party leader finally shut up.

Hera's conscious mind was in a state of turmoil. But she suddenly heard a person's voice calling out to her amidst the chaos. She followed the voice and, after searching for a long time, finally came back to her senses.

With much difficulty, she lifted her head to see who it was. Her vision was a blur, so she couldn't clearly see the person's face.

Who knew that she'd trip and fall into a cave? She couldn't remember what happened after that. After coming back to her senses, she suddenly found herself here with Bernard standing right in front of her.

All of a sudden, she felt something warm on her hands and looked down to see the dagger she had plunged into Bernard's abdomen.

"I— " Before she could finish, she became lightheaded and passed out.

Hugging her tightly, Bernard turned and yelled, "Johnson!"

"Quick! Send her to the hospital!" Johnson gestured for help.

The medical staff quickly brought the stretcher to Bernard and placed Hera on it before getting onto the helicopter with her.

After that, Johnson supported Bernard and helped him to the car. "Douglas, hurry up and help Bernard with the wound."

But Bernard didn't want to get help. "I want to be with her."
