His voice was cool, devoid of any emotion. The unexpected kiss last night had brought them closer, yet the recent incident had widened the gap between them once more.

Amara couldn’t bring herself to look back at him; she feared her eyes would betray the emotions swirling within her. “It’s fine,” she said. “You helping me is a kindness, not helping me is your right.”

Amara was the kind of person who knew when to stand her ground but often too much so, to the point where she wouldn’t make a fuss even if treated unfairly. Finnian felt a strange, fleeting emotion rise within him.

“Are you planning to fight for the Sullivan family shares?”

Though Amara hadn’t spelled it out, spending the night observing had given him a clear picture of the situation.

“I can help you,” Finnian offered.

If the Everly family were to partner with the Sullivan Group, Larry would be overjoyed and might willingly transfer a good portion of shares to Amara, avoiding all this hassle.

Amara understood his logic but shook her head. “No need.”

A partnership between the Everly Group and the Sullivan Group would bind her too closely to the Everly Group, a path she was reluctant to take, especially now with a child to consider.

Finnian was surprised by her decisive refusal of what would clearly benefit her. He realized he understood Amara less and less, perhaps he never did from the beginning.

The next morning, Amara returned to the film set, watching the shoot as usual. Finnian, as always, accompanied Liliana.
