Teresa had fallen asleep in the backseat when they arrived at Fenwell Garden. The driver pulled over, turned off the engine, and lit a cigarette while waiting.

He stared at Teresa in the rearview mirror, his gaze deep and unfathomable. It was hard to tell what he was thinking.

Suddenly, a phone rang, shattering the silence. The man pulled out his phone and immediately put it on silent mode, but it still woke Teresa up.

"Have we arrived?" She sat up and rubbed her eyes, not noticing that anything was out of the ordinary. She grabbed her bag and got out of the car. "Thanks, mister."

The man leaned against the car window and watched as she entered the apartment building. Then, he took a deep drag of his cigarette before stubbing it out and getting out of the car.

Teresa had just arrived outside her apartment when her phone pinged. She checked it to see that her Uber had been canceled because she'd taken too long to respond.

Canceled?

She checked the app in confusion. As soon as she did, her blood ran cold. The Uber she'd hired had been canceled. Who was the guy who'd sent her home, then?

Teresa checked the details and scrutinized the license plate number. When she saw what it was, her ears started ringing. She'd gotten the license plate number wrong!

It was supposed to be DI2625, but she'd seen it as DI1265. The "I" in the license plate number had confused her. What a mistake to make!

She couldn't help thinking about the look in the driver's eye. He was definitely familiar, but where had she seen him?

Suddenly, a fierce and ruthless face appeared in her mind's eye. It made her break out in a cold sweat.

He gave her a disdainful look. "What are you doing? Have you been possessed?"

She looked at the dark stairwell. Even though she couldn't see anything, she just couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was watching her. The feeling of being creeped out washed over her again.

She grabbed Eric's arm and said shakily, "I think someone was following me, Eric."

Eric was opening the door. He shook her off impatiently and said, "What nonsense are you spouting? Why would someone follow a married woman like you?"

He opened the door and headed inside. When he saw her still standing there and staring at the stairwell, he frowned and snapped, "Are you coming in or not? I'm gonna shut the door if you aren't!"

Teresa could only retract her gaze and enter the apartment.
