Taylor headed toward the work area, muttering complaints under his breath. As he turned, the sternness in his demeanor melted away, revealing only a quiet sadness in his eyes.

Half an hour later, everything was set. Helen's friends and family gathered backstage, cheering her on.

Suddenly, the driver for the Newton family burst into the room.

"Mr. Chandler," he said respectfully, bowing his head. "Ms. Maddie has been in a car accident. Would you like to check on her?"

Everyone exchanged anxious glances, a silent understanding flowing among them.

The driver had always been dependable. Why did this have to happen today, of all days?

It felt like a deliberate attempt to steal the spotlight from "Kaylee's" moment.

Still, Maddie was Chandler's fiancée, and with her in the hospital, it would reflect poorly on him if he didn't visit.

On the other hand, today was also "Kaylee's" first book launch since her return home, and leaving now would send a bad message.

As everyone anxiously awaited Chandler's response, he turned to the driver with a stoic expression. "Is her injury serious?" he asked in a calm tone.

The driver hesitated briefly before replying, "She has only minor injuries, but the doctor mentioned a potential risk of a concussion."

"Looks like she's not in any real danger," Chandler said coolly, showing little emotion. "You can go back. I'll visit her after this event."

Even Taylor was taken aback by his reaction. Since Helen had disappeared, Chandler had cycled through relationships, never neglecting an old flame for a new one.

Ignoring the murmurs, Chandler extended a gentlemanly hand to Helen. "It's time for you to go on stage. Let me escort you."

Helen hoped today's events would help Maddie realize her place.
