After some time, Jenson opened his eyes in terror. The moment he regained consciousness, he saw Avery's eerie face.
Avery stood by the bed and stared down at him expressionlessly, speaking in a cold and ghostly voice. "You're awake? Welcome to hell, my little—Ouch!"
Before he could even utter the word "baby", he was hit in the left eye by Jenson and crouched down in pain.
"Bastard, where's Germaine?" Jenson jumped off the bed, clenched his fists, and assumed a fighting stance, ready to strike again.
"She's dead!" Avery blurted out in a fit of anger, not even sparing him a glance.
Jenson believed it and instantly went berserk. "I'll kill you!"
"No, no, no!" Avery quickly ran to hide in the corner of the wall. "I was joking. She's still alive."
"You can't fool me." Jenson grabbed Avery's T-shirt and raised his fist above his head. "I failed to protect her. I'll kill you first and then kill myself. We'll accompany her in the afterworld."
"Ah! Help!" Avery screamed.
The instant the fist fell, the door swung open. Germaine stood at the door, looking at them in confusion. "Jenson, what happened?"
Jenson was stunned. After coming to his senses, he immediately let go of Avery and ran toward Germaine.
He pinched her cheek and was relieved after confirming that she was real. "Thank goodness, you're alive. I was so scared."
Avery covered his swollen eye, sobbing and complaining. "How could you be so ruthless to someone who saved your life? This is too much."
The Moran residence was more like an island than a manor—an entirely self-sufficient private island. The island even had its own patrol team, all members of which were retired soldiers privately hired by the Morans.
That short journey was enough for Jenson to estimate Seth's wealth. The Newton family was incomparable to Seth. But if it were Chandler, he might be able to stand on equal footing with the Moran family with all his assets combined.
As expected, the moment he saw Jenson, Seth directly expressed his disdain. "To be honest, you're not the most ideal son-in-law in my eyes."
Jenson was about to boost himself to win over his father-in-law, but before he could speak, Seth gave in and said, "But since Germaine likes you, it doesn't matter anymore.
"However, you shouldn't assume that it's a done deal and can slack off with her just because she agreed to marry you. My daughter won't tolerate any mistreatment.
"It's still possible to call off the engagement or end the marriage. As long as you treat her poorly, I'll end you even if you were a king."
