After giving birth, Helen took a year off to rest, but once that time passed, she found herself with little to occupy her. With plenty of free time on her hands, she decided to study medicine.
While she wasn't yet at the level to perform complex surgeries, handling minor procedures was well within her skill set.
Taylor couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed. "Boss, not only are you stronger than me, but you're also far more dedicated. Looks like I'll never catch up to you."
"Quit talking and start helping."
Two hours later, the surgery was complete.
"He didn't injure any vital organs, but he lost a lot of blood. The wound's stitched up; now it's up to him to recover," Helen said, removing her surgical gown.
"Do you think he'll pull through?" Taylor asked, his worry evident after the delay on the way back.
"If he wakes up, he'll survive," Helen answered carefully, not wanting to make any promises.
"Aiden's ruthless," Chandler remarked flatly.
"I didn't even say who did it. How do you know it was him?" Taylor asked.
"Because I have a brain," Chandler shot back.
Taylor fell silent, realizing he'd just been subtly called stupid.
In truth, Chandler had every right to be dismissive. The surgery had taken longer than expected, and with their ongoing investigation into the Hunt family, failing to identify the culprit would have been a blow to Chandler's intellect.
Given Chandler's near-genius IQ, Taylor now recognized how foolish his question had been.
Helen flashed a knowing smile, teasing him playfully. "You seem unusually interested in Aiden's affairs."
"Well, it's all because of—" Taylor began, then caught himself, realizing he almost let something slip.
He quickly recovered, adding, "It's for my friends. Abigail is a friend, and I know Lucy too. It's a moral responsibility—I can't just stand by and do nothing. Besides, that's not really our thing."
Helen followed without a word.
"What about him?" Taylor gestured to Hugo, still unconscious on the operating table.
Helen walked over and gave him a pat on the shoulder. "You're the one who brought him back, so naturally, you're the one who'll take care of him."
"You two are heartless," Taylor muttered, his expression dropping in frustration. "Can't I at least have a bed?"
The basement had only one operating table, and Hugo had claimed it. If Taylor wanted to stay, he'd have to sleep on the floor.
"That's not my problem. You'll figure it out," Helen replied.
She could tell that Taylor was walking a fine line by trying to juggle his feelings for two women. Wanting to set him straight, she decided to give him some tough love.
With no other choice, Taylor trudged upstairs and brought down a single sofa. For the next two nights, he settled on the makeshift setup, camping out in the basement.
