On the third morning, Hugo slowly regained consciousness.

"Where am I?"

At the sound of his voice, Taylor stirred awake on the sofa where he had been resting.

Seeing that Hugo was awake, he breathed a sigh of relief. Stretching his stiff muscles, he got up and walked over to him.

"This is my boss' basement."

Hugo turned his head slowly, his eyes widening when he saw Taylor's face. "You… saved me? But why?"

When Hugo had issued the order that day, Taylor must have heard it. Yet here he was, responding to hatred with kindness.

"It doesn't matter," Taylor said, repeating his usual line. "Helping those in need is simply in our nature as Cathayans. I suppose it just wasn't your time yet."

"Anyway, thanks," Hugo muttered, clearly not in the best of moods. He turned his face away, his gaze vacant as he stared at the ceiling.

The once proud and arrogant heir now appeared to be nothing more than a hollow shell of his former self.

"You've been asleep for quite a while. Do you want something to eat?" Taylor asked, his own hunger gnawing at him.

Helen had planned to bring Taylor some food, but Chandler insisted it was too much trouble. If he was hungry, he could come upstairs himself. There was no need for Helen to keep running up and down.

With Hugo in such critical condition, Taylor couldn't bring himself to leave his side. Having gone so long without food or water, his stomach painfully gnawed at him from hunger.

"No, thank you. I'm not hungry," Hugo said, closing his eyes. He pretended to sleep, hoping to steer clear of any more conversation.

"Alright, take care. I'll head upstairs to update the doctor on your condition. Don't worry. This place is secure. You're not in any danger of being discovered," Taylor said before heading up the stairs.

Once Taylor's footsteps faded, Hugo slowly opened his eyes, his gaze clouded with a reddish tint.

All that filled his mind was the image of Aiden stabbing him. Aiden's expression had been so cold, completely void of sympathy.

Seeing he wouldn't win this argument, Taylor gave up and glanced around. His eyes landed on Jenson's plate, where two untouched sandwiches sat.

Without a second thought, he reached for them with a sly grin. "With your small appetite, you probably won't finish these. Let me help you out."

Without warning, Jenson brushed his hand aside with his utensils and pulled the sandwiches closer. "I've got it. No need to bother yourself."

"Come on! Aren't we supposed to be friends? It's just a sandwich. Do you really have to be this stingy?" Taylor shot back in exasperation.

"Even between friends, sandwiches are sacred," Jenson replied, not even looking up from his food.

Taylor was ready to snap, feeling like he was being ganged up on by Chandler and Jenson.

Just then, a voice interrupted the tension.

"Here, Uncle Taylor, you can have mine," Lincoln offered. With that, he quickly picked up his plate and handed it to Taylor.
