Nonetheless, Abigail's attempt to deflect the conversation only backfired.
"Aunt Abigail, aren't you supposed to marry Uncle Taylor?" Sienna eagerly directed the attention to her, clearly enjoying the opportunity to gossip.
Abigail's smile faltered.
Just a few months ago, she had confessed her feelings to Taylor, and Sienna's family had been fully supportive. But in the blink of an eye, everything had changed. Both she and Taylor had moved on, each finding someone else.
It was as if fate had played a cruel joke on her.
The person she cared about didn't feel the same, while the one who didn't care about her was now insisting on her affection. How could any of that make sense?
Noticing the shift in Abigail's mood, Helen quickly intervened. "Silly girl, whoever Aunt Abigail marries will still be your godfather!"
"But it's not the same. If Aunt Abigail doesn't marry Uncle Taylor, then he won't be my godfather anymore!" Sienna shot back.
Having become quite fluent in Cholonese, Sienna's words now flowed smoothly, almost as if speaking in a tongue-twister.
"Okay, you're right, but who Aunt Abigail marries is her personal choice. We need to respect that, alright? Besides, we shouldn't be interfering in other people's private matters," Helen said gently.
"Okay…" Sienna pouted, her big eyes filled with hope as she looked up at the adults. "If Aunt Abigail marries someone else, will I still get a little sister?"
Ever since Helen and Chandler had gotten back together, Sienna and Lincoln had been asking nonstop for a little sister. Yet despite all their wishes, there was still no sign of one.
Not wanting to rely solely on Helen, Sienna shifted her focus to Abigail.
Nonetheless, Abigail hadn't even considered having children. As she placed a chicken drumstick onto Sienna's plate, she said, "Tell your mommy and daddy to try harder, and eventually, you'll get a little sister."
Helen's face turned slightly red. It seemed like a baby might really be in the cards after all.
…
"How did you know my address?" Taylor asked. This was a new place he had just rented, and even Helen and the others hadn't had the chance to visit yet.
"Remember when you lent me your jacket the other day? I found a key in the pocket, and the address was on the keychain," Lucy explained, stepping inside and setting the dishes down on the dining table.
"Go ahead, try it. It's my first time cooking, so don't be too critical if it's not perfect."
As the delicious aroma filled the air, Taylor couldn't help but rub his stomach. "I'll admit, I'm starting to feel pretty hungry."
With that, Lucy handed him the fork and knife. Taylor sat down, eager to dig in. "I won't hold back."
After sampling the dishes, he nodded in approval. "Not bad at all. Looks like you really know your way around the kitchen," he teased.
Though the dishes were simple, home-cooked meals, they were light, flavorful, and perfectly suited to his Cathayan palate.
"If you like it, I could cook for you every day."
