As soon as Salome said that, she slammed herself against the car to relieve the unbearable itch.
A sly smile crossed Kingsley's face. All he did was drip a small drop of the itching liquid from Lincoln's lab onto her neck. He didn't expect her to be in such agony despite the minimal dosage.
This was karma at work, wasn't it? Even the heavens couldn't bear Salome, so her tolerance was bound to be weaker than most, and she would suffer even more.
Lucy immediately realized he wasn't an ordinary man. Her expression turned complex as it dawned on her that it would've been effortless for him to harm them if he'd truly intended to. Clearly, he meant no harm.
"Lucy, help me! I can't stand it anymore!" Salome wailed, her voice echoing through the mountains.
"If you can guarantee not to harm Abigail, you can take her," Lucy said, though she knew she had no say in deciding Abigail's fate. She just wanted to be reassured.
Hearing this, Kingsley smiled and raised his right hand. "I swear I won't hurt her."
He extended his hand again and continued in a commanding tone, "Can you hand her over to me now?"
Lucy's gaze darted between him and Abigail in her arms. Finally, she handed her over to him.
Kingsley was about to leave after having Abigail in his arms when Lucy darted after him.
"Wait!" she yelled. "You haven't told me how I should treat my friend's condition."
"It will disappear in six hours," Kingsley said nonchalantly, stopping in his tracks but not turning around. "If it's too overwhelming, you can take her to the hospital for an IV. The itching should subside in three hours at best."
He must've been caught by a tree branch on the way down, which explained the delay before he hit the ground.
"Taylor? Are you alright?"
Lucy crouched down to check his condition and realized that he was severely injured as well. Feeling a sudden surge of strength within her, she threw him over her shoulder and staggered toward the car to get him inside.
"Another one?" Salome grumbled, scratching at her neck while wearing an incredulous expression. "I mean, he's so big. Where am I supposed to sit when he's in the car?"
The Hunt family's car was only meant to fit two people in the back. Since Salome's return to the country, she had become accustomed to being chauffeured everywhere. She felt like she might as well suffocate with another person in the car now.
