Looking grim, Taylor scanned his surroundings. Once he was certain that Abigail wasn't with him, he sat up and forcefully removed the IV drip.
"What are you doing?" Salome asked, visibly bewildered.
He wouldn't possibly be that petty, would he? Did he just get angry after a few jabs?
"I'll definitely repay you in the future for saving my life, but I must leave right now," Taylor said, pushing the blanket off and struggling to get out of bed.
"No way!" Salome pushed him back down. "How can you just leave without a word after we saved your life? You're being so ungrateful. How dare you? Is Lucy nothing to you?"
A wave of helplessness washed through Taylor.
"You've misunderstood," he said. "I respect Lucy a lot, but my fiancée was with me, and I must ensure her safety before I can rest at ease."
He had pulled Abigail down into the valley with him. Overwhelmed by guilt and anxiety, he could barely think about anything else now.
"Oh, so you care about your fiancée's feelings but not Lucy's? She treated you so well and put aside the grudges against you to save you, yet you're still thinking about that woman! Do you even have any conscience?
"If I had known, I should've just let you freeze to death on the road!" Salome shrieked, unwilling to let him go.
Taylor felt as if he'd been run over by a truck. Weak and ill, he couldn't break free from her grip. She had also saved him, and she was a woman—he couldn't just fight her.
"I don't care. We saved your life, and it's up to us to decide whether you stay or leave!" Salome demanded, assuming the role of Taylor's savior.
"What nonsense are you on about, Salome?" Lucy yelled, arriving just in time to chastise her.
She then turned to Taylor calmly and said, "Sorry, she's just worried about your injuries. If you're that concerned about Abigail, you can leave whenever you want."
"It's going to be awkward for me if you keep this up. I hope you'll refrain from doing such inappropriate things in the future."
She then turned to leave. When Salome tried to go after her, she stopped in her tracks and said, "I'd like to spend some time alone for a while. You should also stop looking for me during this time."
With that, Lucy left without turning back.
"Lucy! Hey!" Salome called after her, yet all her calls were met with silence.
Stomping her foot in frustration, Salome wondered why it was all her fault. If it wasn't for Lucy's sake, she wouldn't have done such an annoying thing.
Forget about being ungrateful, Lucy was even blaming her. She was plunged into a difficult situation now.
She begrudgingly thought that Lucy indeed fit all the stereotypes of a daughter from a rich family—selfish, irresponsible, and had no empathy for others!
