Kingsley sighed and patted Lincoln on the shoulder. "See that? That's what happens when you piss women off. You better watch out next time."
Lincoln dodged Kingsley's hand and stepped aside to put some distance between them. "Kingsley, today's the tenth day. As per our agreement, if you can't help me defeat Mr. James by midnight, the deal is off."
Kingsley sucked in a breath. "Has it already been ten days? Are you sure you got the date right?"
Abigail sneered. "Don't pin your hopes on him, Linc. As if he can train you enough for any real progress."
"What will you do if I do?" Kingsley retorted.
"Well, it'll prove that you actually know your stuff. But what's that got to do with me?" Abigail shot back, her mind sharp enough not to fall for his trick.
"Aww, you aren't scared of losing, are you?" Kingsley teased, sliding his hands into his pockets.
"Scared? You wish!" Abigail fired back, her temper getting the best of her. "Fine. If Lincoln beats James, I'll be at your beck and call for one month!"
Although she hadn't fallen for his first bait, the second one still got to her.
"Deal! Just remember I didn't force you into this!" Kingsley immediately broke into a grin.
Taylor tried to intervene. "Honey, don't be rash!"
"Move it!" Abigail was now fully invested in the bet. "Yeah, you've got a deal. And if you can't do it, you'll be my servant for half a year!"
"That's not fair. Why is my punishment six months long when yours only takes a month?" Kingsley asked disdainfully.
"Because I said so. Take it or leave." Abigail looked away arrogantly.
Abigail humphed and stormed off.
Helen, who had been watching everything, felt puzzled. "Why do I feel like Abigail got tricked? She didn't have any reason to bet anything, but now, she might end up being Kingsley's maid."
Chandler chuckled. "It's better for her to be tricked by her friends than her enemies."
After all, everyone has to learn from mistakes. She should consider this a lesson learned.
"How about we make a bet too?" he offered, feeling playful. "If I win, let's have another daughter."
"What if it's a boy?" Helen asked.
"Then we'll keep trying until it's a girl. I'm sure eventually one of them will be a girl." Chandler grinned mischievously.
