"You're so sly." Helen quickly realized she'd once again fallen into Chandler's trap.
Just like how she was the bane of many people's existence, Chandler had her in the palm of his hand.
"In that case, I'll bet on Kingsley." Helen put in her guess first. "If he wins, we'll have a son."
"Then, I'll have no choice but to bet on Abigail." Chandler sighed with a look of feigned regret while his eyes flashed with a victorious gleam.
Helen felt smug about securing the first move. It wasn't until the end of the gathering that it sank in that regardless of the baby's gender, Chandler was going to get what he wanted.
…
Half an hour later, the aroma of grilled meat wafted through the air.
Seth, who had been lying in boredom in his room, couldn't resist the tantalizing smell. While Tiana was napping, he quietly slipped out of the room and shut the door, dashing toward the backyard.
There were all sorts of meats and sizzling skewers on the grill.
Seth rubbed his hands together gleefully, salivating as he pointed to the skewers. "Get me five skewers. I want them extra spicy."
Without a word, Reggie sprinkled some spices and kept the skewers on the grill for a bit longer before handing them to him.
Seth was about to take a bite when someone suddenly snatched them away.
"No, you don't!" Tiana had appeared out of nowhere. Angrily, she admonished, "Have you forgotten the condition of your health? Are you trying to die early by eating this?"
She sounded just like a mother nagging at their kid.
Seth wiped the drool off his chin, never taking his eyes off the skewers she was waving around. "I've been munching on veggies like a bunny these past few days. Can't I indulge just this once?"
Since he couldn't eat any of the food, Seth wasn't going to miss out on this excitement. He found the perfect spot and pulled Tiana to sit beside him.
The crowd formed a circle around Lincoln and James. The two stood on opposite sides, giving off vastly different energies.
James took off his jacket, revealing his white tank top that hugged his muscles. His chest quivered with power, charged for the fight.
In contrast, Lincoln looked lean and frail as he calmly stood there.
Seth observed the two of them before nudging Tiana. "Tia, I heard they've all placed bets. Why don't we join the fun too?"
"It's for them young people. What's it got to do with us?" Tiana responded indifferently.
"You don't get it. Trying new things keeps the mind young and healthy, and it even slows dementia!" Seth begged her, "Just humor me once, okay?"
