"But what if that person decides to destroy my body during that half hour?"

Kingsley didn't respond. He hadn't thought of that possibility before.

The next morning, Abigail was woken up by a phone call. Still groggy, she answered the call and brought the phone to her ear.

"Who is it?"

"It's me, Kingsley. Didn't someone agree to be my maid? Well, how can you be late on your first day?" Kingsley taunted. "Don't tell me you're going back on your word?"

Abigail gritted her teeth, her blood boiling. "Just you wait!"

Kingsley lived two houses away. Throwing on a jacket, she stormed out murderously. She didn't even acknowledge Lincoln and Sienna, who she passed on the way there.

Kingsley was completely unfazed by her anger and let her into his house. Leaning on his couch leisurely, he said, "I'm hungry. You can make breakfast now."

"Can't cook," Abigail replied in a deadpan tone, looking as unhappy as ever.

"Well, you can learn now," Kingsley said cheerfully. "Just make something simple. I'm not picky."

"If you say so."

The urge to get even kicked in. Abigail grabbed her phone and stomped into the kitchen.

"I'll take a nap for now. Call me when the food's ready." With his hands in his pockets, Kingsley casually went upstairs.

This ticked Abigail off. He'd woken her up, yet he got to go back to bed? What gall!

That was enough. She was going to teach him a lesson!

She opened her Internet browser and began searching for bizarre recipes.

"Huh?"

"Charcoal-grilled chicken heart."

"Fantastic." Kingsley set down his fork and clapped. "Why don't you try them first?"

"How could I eat food that was prepared for you? A maid doesn't deserve to eat." Abigail wasn't about to fall for that. Who in their right mind would eat such things?

"It's fine. I'm allowing you to test the food for me."

Kingsley gestured for her to dig in, not leaving any room for negotiation.

"Sorry, that's not part of my service!" When it didn't seem like he was fooled, Abigail scowled and threw down her apron. She turned to leave. "My task has been completed. See you!"

"Hang on!"
