Before Zac could react, the sofa cover beneath him suddenly shifted. A rope tightened around him, hoisting both him and the cover into the air.
At that moment, the four ambushers who had been waiting upstairs revealed themselves.
Seeing Zac in such a helpless state, Jenson leaned over the railing and shouted angrily, "You sick bastard! How dare you try to kill your own brother! I swear, I'll tear you apart!"
As Zac continued to struggle, Germaine suddenly released her grip, allowing him to crash violently to the floor. Without missing a beat, she followed up with a spinning kick, knocking him out cold.
Jenson blinked in surprise. "Honey, I was just venting! You don't really plan on dismembering him, do you?"
At the end of the day, they were still different from Zac. They couldn't bring themselves to kill someone they had grown up with.
"My man shouldn't be treated like that. What's wrong with standing up for you?" Germaine said with resolve, channeling the spirit of a modern-day heroine.
"No problem, babe, I love you!" Jenson replied, his heart soaring as he blew her a flurry of air kisses.
"Ugh," both Taylor and Lucy groaned in unison, clearly unimpressed by the exchange.
After a brief rest, the group took the unconscious Zac and headed downtown. Once they dropped Lucy off at her home, the remaining trio made their way back to the historic house.
…
Zac jolted awake, a cold splash of water hitting him. His eyes flickered open, and he saw Chandler and "Kaylee" sitting on the sofa, watching him intently.
He ignored his beloved Helen, throwing a brief glance at Chandler. But as he turned his head, he realized he was in their house.
An uneasy feeling crept into his chest as he slowly turned back. "After everything that happened at Times Square last night, how can you still be here? Aren't you worried the Morgian authorities will come after you?"
Chandler leaned back casually on the couch, crossing his legs. "The payment has been made. There's no need for further involvement, is there?"
At that moment, Lincoln looked up from his mini-computer. He walked over and explained in his youthful voice, "It's actually simple. I created a second room on Twitch and used a little sleight of hand. The audience comments were pre-set, and once the time hit, they just appeared automatically.
"I already warned you about room number 04250, but you insisted on clicking it. Don't blame my dad—our intelligence levels aren't even close. How could you possibly compete with him?"
Zac's expression flickered with unease, his mind racing with self-doubt. He had just been outsmarted by Chandler's eight-year-old stepson. Wasn't that the ultimate humiliation?
But what could a child possibly understand? It was all Chandler's doing—he was nothing but a crafty old fox, always scheming and pulling the strings behind the scenes.
"You never had any intention of following through on your promise, did you?" Zac asked.
"Why would I? You asked for a fight, and I gave you one. The Newton family is built on honor and courage. Even if it costs us everything, we would never sacrifice innocent lives for our own gain.
"Jenson and I both stand by that. But you…" Chandler paused and shook his head. "You're nothing but a disappointment."
