The beeping grew louder, echoing from above the air raid shelter.

A rush of unease tightened around Kingsley's chest. Suddenly, his eyes widened in realization, and he grabbed Abigail's wrist. "Run! They're about to blow this place up!"

Abigail instinctively yanked her arm free and sprinted ahead. For a brief moment, they kept pace, but as the tunnel tightened, Kingsley began to lag behind.

Just as they reached the light, a series of explosions rang out from within the shelter, unleashing a violent shockwave that rippled through the space.

Abigail reached the surface first but didn't stop. Glancing back, she saw thick, black smoke chasing after Kingsley like a beast on the hunt.

Without a second thought, she seized the moment. As he broke through the blast, she lunged and tackled him to the right side of the entrance.

They hit the ground, narrowly avoiding the final blast. Dirt and debris showered over them, but they had escaped the worst of it.

The dust slowly settled, leaving an eerie silence. Kingsley snapped out of his daze, though his expression remained frozen. Abigail lay sprawled on top of him, her chest just inches from his face.

As Kingsley caught a fleeting glimpse of her cleavage through the collar of her shirt, a blush quickly spread across his cheeks.

Abigail coughed twice, trying to catch her breath. As her eyes followed the direction of his gaze, they narrowed in warning. "Even in a moment like this, you really can't keep your mind in check, can you? I guess a degenerate will stay a degenerate."

With that, Abigail stood and walked away without a second glance.

Kingsley quickly caught up, brushing the dust from his coat. His voice held a touch of indignation, though his words seemed more like an attempt to deflect. "Who's mind is wandering? I was just embarrassed for you. As a woman, why do you always throw yourself into danger?

"What's the point of having a man around if you're the one taking all the blows? Maybe you should let someone else protect you for once. Softening up doesn't make you weak, you know."

After the encounter with Lucy and Taylor, Abigail's typically loud and spirited demeanor gave way to an unexpected quietness.

Kingsley couldn't shake the worry that she was bottling everything up, wondering how much longer she could keep it all contained before it eventually spilled over.

As a doctor, caring for others was instinctive, and despite their differences, he couldn't ignore what was clearly eating at her.

Soon after, Jenson arrived, and they gathered near a stream at the base of the mountain.

"Hels should be safe, but she's been moved to a different location. We need to continue searching," Abigail said.

The revelation that Stanson was behind everything eased some of their tension. That man was all show—he wouldn't dare harm Helen.

Jenson nodded. "The Holland family's territory isn't that large. If we turn Miravell upside down, we'll find something. Kingsley, how's Chandler?"

"Not good. He's been poisoned with a rare chronic toxin—it's a tough one to treat. I came to see if there are any remedies nearby."

"Thanks for all your help. We'll keep Chandler's condition from the kids for the time being. But when it comes to Helen, just be honest with her. The kids are growing up, and they need to learn how to be strong. It's better if they start adjusting slowly."

After the brief exchange, they resumed their search for Helen.
