When Helen regained consciousness, everything around her was pitch-black.
She slowly sat up and realized that her hands were tied up in front of her.
"Is anyone there?" She hoarsely called out, but there was no response except for the echo of her own voice.
Helen had a rough idea of her current predicament.
She struggled forcefully, even to the point of causing her wrists to bleed, and somehow managed to free herself from the ropes.
She started to adapt to the darkness. She glanced around and discovered that she was in an extremely run-down wooden hut. She got up and opened the door.
The night's cold wind howled, stinging her cheeks. She could hear the cries of some wild animals in the distance. Helen's heart sank.
"The person behind this better not let me find them or I'll make them regret it."
She then saw two tall men approaching. She hurriedly closed the door and pretended to still be tied up.
"It's really miserable having to stay on this mountain for two or three days."
"No worries, we can take a good break after this job. Just hold on a bit longer. It's only two or three days. It'll pass quickly."
Helen listened to their conversation as their voices got closer.
The door was then opened, casting a harsh light on her. She instinctively raised her hands to shield her eyes.
"You're awake," one of the men said, then tossed a cold bun over to her. "Eat it; don't starve to death."
Helen ignored the bun and looked at them. "Why did you bring me here?"
After an hour, both men left the room.
"Do you think that girl was serious about the one million?"
The other man snapped back, "Why does it matter? Do you actually believe a brat's words? Don't be delusional. Let's talk about it after we complete this job."
"Alright, I'll stay and watch over her for the first half of the night, and you can take over in the second half."
They agreed on their plan, and one of them went to rest.
As Helen heard one set of footsteps recede into the distance, her heart sank.
Her chances of escaping would significantly increase if it was just one person watching her for the whole night. For safety's sake, she decided to contact Taylor.
