Despite the obvious constraint in his voice, Helen could still hear his frailty. Even so, she was relieved to know that he was still alive.
"Send me your location," Helen demanded angrily and hung up the phone, not giving Chandler a chance to respond.
A minute later, Carles sent her their location. Helen clicked on it. The place was nearby, only a ten-minute drive away.
It seemed like Chandler had thought it through in order to prevent her from checking on him.
Putting her phone away, Helen turned to Ambrose and asked, "Did you drive here?"
"Yes." Ambrose nodded in a daze.
"Key." Helen held out her hand.
Startled, Ambrose obediently took the key out of his pocket and handed it to her.
Helen took the key and walked past him right away. She drove at an astonishing speed, scaring Ambrose out of his wits.
…
Following the location, Helen came to a two-story wooden building. She went upstairs and saw Chandler lying on the bed.
His bare upper torso was wrapped with thick gauze from the shoulder to the waist to cover the wound. Even so, Helen could tell that it was a deep cut from the blood seeping out from it.
But that alone was insufficient to explain Chandler's pale appearance. She went up to check Chandler's pulse, and her face instantly darkened afterward.
"There's no need to check." Chandler panted heavily. "I'm poisoned with the same toxin as Ms. Sylvia, but my case is more serious."
"Layered schemes are hard to avoid," Helen said lightly and paused for a while before dismissing Carles.
"Please go out first as I have to perform acupuncture on Chandler. He has too much toxin in him, which needs to be driven out."
Carles glanced at Chandler and got the latter's permission before going downstairs obediently.
Helen helped Chandler lie down and took out the acupuncture needles she carried with her. After getting a chair and placing the needles on the bedside, she inserted them one by one.
She was intensely focused as her brow furrowed slightly and cold sweat trickled from her forehead.
Chandler gazed at her, frowning a little. "Are you still angry?"
