"Captain Whitmore, aren't you supposed to be a civil servant? Why are you involved in such dubious activities?" Ambrose asked sarcastically.
"It's none of your concern!" Larry retorted, shooting him a disdainful glance. Turning to Helen, he continued, "If you have nothing to hide, why are there so many guards around your house?"
"It was my decision," Chandler responded calmly. "Helen is now the rightful heir of the Boston family, and there are countless people who want to harm her. I've taken these measures to safeguard her and her family."
Larry turned away, wearing a skeptical expression.
Out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed someone tied to a chair through the gap between Chandler and Callie. Almost instinctively, Larry shoved past them and hurried inside.
Without hesitation, he bent down to lift the person's head. As soon as he recognized Owen, he swiftly checked his breathing.
After a moment, Larry glanced back at the doorway, his face filled with shock and disbelief. "Did you seriously kill an innocent student?"
"We can explain," Helen interjected.
"Explain what? He accused you of murder this afternoon, and now he's found dead in your house. What possible explanation could you have?"
Larry couldn't hide his disappointment as he shot Chandler a disapproving glance. After releasing Owen, he strode directly to Helen, firmly gripping her arm and escorting her out.
Suddenly, a large hand reached out and grabbed Larry. As he turned, Chandler's intense gaze met his.
"Chandler!" Larry's voice quivered with disbelief. "How could you betray your principles for the sake of a woman?"
"Helen is my priority," Chandler replied stoically. "I take full responsibility for his death. Let go of her."
"What if I refuse?" Larry retorted, his faith on the verge of shattering. After years of friendship, he never expected to find himself at odds with Chandler like this.
Motivated by his love for Helen, Chandler was willing to take drastic actions, even resorting to murder to silence a witness.
As the needle penetrated his skin, Larry gripped his neck, his legs weakening as he fell to the ground in front of them.
Ambrose, who had been on standby to defend Helen, relaxed his clenched fists upon seeing Larry incapacitated. With a smug smile, he stepped forward and gave Larry a condescending pat on the head.
"Are you still going to put on a tough act? How does it feel to witness Helen's capabilities? If she hadn't taught you a lesson, perhaps you'd still hold yourself in high regard."
Larry's eyes burned with resentment, unwilling to concede defeat.
"Captain Whitmore," Helen asserted firmly, locking eyes with him. "If you have biases against me, so be it. However, I urge you to trust Chandler's character. He is not someone who would commit a crime, let alone conceal one. I certainly would never betray his trust, either.
"But since you've accused me of murder and believe you've uncovered the truth, perhaps you should stay here and observe me closely. Judge for yourself if I am truly the person you've envisioned."
Turning to Reggie, Helen instructed, "Please arrange a room for Captain Whitmore."
