After the door closed, Otto opened his eyes and let go of Laura. He straightened up, smoothing his coat as he calmly proceeded further into the room.
Laura fell silent, visibly surprised.
After a fleeting moment of awkwardness, she steadied herself and followed Otto inside.
"Considering the recent increase in workload, I believe it's appropriate to discuss a raise for me," Laura said, leaning casually against the cabinet beside the TV with a playful smirk.
Ignoring her comment, Otto poured himself a glass of water and took a sip. He then settled back onto the sofa, adjusting his tie.
"Discussing money can strain relationships, Laura," Otto remarked casually. "Perhaps you would benefit more from learning local customs instead of picking up all the negative habits of foreigners."
"Are you really trying to discuss feelings with me?" Laura asked sharply, raising an eyebrow.
She continued, "I'm afraid that's a luxury I can't afford. Without financial security, I feel unsettled—how can I stay motivated at work when I'm struggling to get by?"
"If that's how you perceive it, Laura, perhaps your sense of security is overly dependent on a single factor," Otto remarked with a wry smile.
"I don't see the problem with that," Laura shot back. "Having a reliable source means fewer uncertainties. Rather than constantly shifting my persona and trying to please others like you do, I'd prefer to focus on achieving financial security and be done with it."
Otto shook his head, smiling in resignation. "You're not foolish at all. Even in death, it seems you'll remain closely tied to your wealth.
"I prefer to see it as having clear goals," Laura replied earnestly.
Otto offered no further response. He stood up and quietly made his way toward the door.
"Shall I call room service and have some food sent up?" Laura asked, assuming Otto was returning to his room.
"It's fine." Otto waved his hand dismissively. He opened the door and left, disappearing from sight.
It read B1303, while her room was A1303—on the opposite side of the corridor. She had taken the wrong direction.
"I'm sorry, I must have gone to the wrong room," Helen hastily apologized, turning to leave.
"Hold on a moment, Ms. Spencer," Colin said, catching her attention. "Since we've run into each other, how about joining me for a cup of coffee?"
"No, thank you," Helen replied politely. "It's quite late, and I'd prefer not to have coffee now—it might keep me awake."
"In that case, let me walk you to your room," Colin said, shutting his door and stepping outside.
Helen felt a bit uneasy. "You really don't have to. It's only a short walk."
"I was heading out anyway. Let's go." Colin said, gesturing for her to follow. Helen hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed and walked with him.
