Chapter 100: The potatoes... Give them to me novel Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT)
Since the game was over Han Xin dismissed the crowd surrounding them. They slowly dispersed at his command whispering their admiration for the general.
If this got out that they were beaten at a silly game by Her Highness, they would be a laughing stock, and their regiment would lose face altogether. Only Lian, Mei, Yi Nuo, Han Zhan, and Jun De remained, their eyes fixed on Peng Xiu and Han Xin.
Han Zhan stood by the board with a newfound respect for Princess Xiu evident in his gaze. She had lasted far longer in the game than he ever had, and at one point, he had even thought his cousin might lose. The intensity of the match had been palpable but, in the end, Han Xin won.
Mei, however, was worried. She feared that their master might lose the money the general gave to him. She didn’t want her master to continue wearing such uncomfortable clothes; their master had suffered enough in the past. Leaning in, Mei whispered her concerns into Xiang Yu’s ear. He responded with a reassuring smile, his intense gaze never leaving Han Xin. There was no way Xiang Yu would let that happen. Once it was in his hands it was his now.
Lian however, noticed the spark in Xiang Yu’s eye. It was a distinct spark of passion that appeared whenever their master met someone he wanted to challenge. Lian was right. Han Xin had piqued his interest. He had failed to beat him physically but now he was determined to beat him intellectually. Once he was decided on something Xiang Yu rarely changed his mind.
Han Xin, on the other hand, felt awkward under her unwavering stare. The intensity of her gaze made him shift uncomfortably. He was fully aware of what that gaze meant. In her eyes, she was a challenge, and knowing her personality, she wouldn’t stop until she won. The air between them crackled with unspoken tension that didn’t allow others to intervene.
He stood up, his figure imposing and commanding attention. "Let’s go," he said to the princess, his voice firm. Xiang Yu’s curiosity was piqued, eager to know what he would ask for. He had nothing of value to him, so what could Han Xin possibly want?
Before following him, he turned to Jun De. "De-ge, how was my gameplay? Did you like it?" he asked, his tone light.
Jun De, who had been minding his own business while packing away the game pieces, looked up with a dumbfounded expression. "Huh?" he muttered, before realising who was speaking to him. He quickly smiled and said, "Yes, your Highness, you were excellent and graceful." Xiang Yu chuckled at his response, but Han Xin’s jaw tightened. He couldn’t help but wonder if she was always this affectionate with everyone. ’How annoying,’ he thought as he turned to leave.
Han Zhan, observing the scene, recognised that look on his cousin’s face. It was the same look Han Xin had when he borrowed his favourite sword without asking when they were kids. He glared at him, and for three days straight, he gave him the silent treatment. He might not show it, but Han Zhan knew his cousin was possessive of his things.
As the pair walked away, one behind the other, Han Zhan watched them with a glint of amusement in his eyes. The dynamic between them was intriguing, and he couldn’t wait to see how it would play out.
