"Would you like to see me use my powers to make them grow faster?"

Xiang Yu straightened, intrigued. He knew Da Hei wasn’t the strongest among the Awakened, but this greenhouse partially existed because of him.

"Show me," Xiang Yu said.

Xiang Yu fetched the twins, Lian and Mei, and the four of them headed outside the city. Da Hei would have preferred it if it were just him and Xiang Yu, but Xiang Yu had insisted the twins come along.

The sun was high in the sky, casting sharp shadows over the cracked, dry ground. The air was thick with tension, though no one spoke of it.

Xiang Yu turned to the twins as they walked, his tone casual but probing. "So, do you have any antidotes for the plants?"

Lian glanced at him, her expression thoughtful. "We have one for the venomthorn vines," she said.

Xiang Yu nodded, his smirk faint but present. "Good. The bloodbloom spires release a hypnotic scent, which isn’t ideal. And the ashroot stranglers’ pollen causes respiratory distress. So, we’re left with two choices, the venomthorn vines and the nightshade maw."

Mei chimed in, her voice bright and matter-of-fact. "We definitely have an antidote for the venomthorn vines, but not the nightshade maw."

Xiang Yu glanced at Da Hei, his tone shifting slightly. "Do we have enough to cover the city?"

Da Hei bit his thumb, his brow furrowing as he thought. After a moment, he nodded. "I think so."

Xiang Yu’s smirk widened. "Good. So, will you show us?"

Da Hei hesitated, his gaze flickering toward Xiang Yu. He wanted to impress him, to show off his skills. But before he could answer, Mei interjected, her voice bubbling with excitement. "Yes, yes, show us! We are so excited!"

Da Hei pursed his lips, his fingers curling slightly in frustration. He had wanted to share this moment with Xiang Yu, not with the twins. But he didn’t argue.

Instead, he knelt on the ground, pressing his hands to the cracked, dry soil. The earth beneath them shifted, the ground parting to form a small hole, just enough for a potted plant.

Carefully, Da Hei placed the plant in the hole, covering its roots with soil. Then he activated his powers again. The supple, thorn-covered vine began to grow rapidly, its vines stretching and thickening, becoming stronger and more menacing.

Da Hei’s face was a mask of concentration, sweat beading on his forehead as he worked. Eventually, he had to stop, the effort too much to sustain.

Lian clapped her hands, her eyes wide with admiration. "That is so cool!" she said, her voice full of genuine praise.

Xiang Yu grinned, his tone light but appreciative. "That is a pretty cool power."

Mei tilted her head and asked curiously, "Can you make them dance?"

Da Hei’s ears turned red, a mix of embarrassment and giddiness washing over him. Xiang Yu had praised him, and his heart swelled with pride.

But Xiang Yu quickly turned to Mei, his tone slightly scolding. "Such an exhausting power and you want to waste it on making plants dance?"
