Nathaniel was frustrated, thinking he should not have brought Callum here and sent him back to the Nicholls residence.

He stood there with a gloomy expression, leaning against the bathroom door frame, waiting motionlessly.

Ten minutes later…

Both mother and son's gentle breathing could be heard from the bed. They had completely forgotten about him, leaving him to fend for himself.

Nathaniel was irritated and stepped forward with his left leg, intending to walk back to the bed on his own. Then, as if remembering something, he suddenly pretended to lose his footing and fell to the ground.

As he fell, he deliberately knocked over a nearby shelf, and the resulting clatter was jarring in the quiet night, waking both Mavis and Callum.

Callum rubbed his eyes, a bit grumpy from being woken up, and whimpered softly.

Mavis comforted the little boy with one hand while glancing at Nathaniel on the floor.

"Is walking from the bathroom to the bed that hard for you?"

"Yes, I can't walk," Nathaniel replied, hanging his head and pressing on his injured left leg, looking strained.

Mavis watched him for a moment and shook her head in disbelief. If he were in the entertainment industry, his acting skills would probably earn him an award.

She wondered how long he could keep up this act.

Once Callum had dozed off again, she got out of bed to help Nathaniel.

He took the opportunity to lean against Mavis, acting clingy.

Fresh from his shower, he smelled nice, but Mavis felt uncomfortable when he rested his head on her shoulder.

She scolded, "Don't try to seduce me. I'm not interested in you right now."

Nathaniel's back stiffened at her words, and his eyes dimmed instantly.

"After seeing my scarred body, you're disgusted with me, aren't you?"

Mavis was baffled.

What did that have to do with anything?

Nonetheless, she could not be bothered to answer him and remained silent as she helped him onto the bed. Then, she returned to her side of the bed and curled up with Callum to sleep.

"Besides, what kind of brother-in-law hurts his wife's brother so badly? You almost crippled me back then, and you haven't even apologized once."

Nathaniel did not let him off easy either.

He coldly replied, "If you hadn't attacked first and had a better attitude, you wouldn't be suffering like this."

Dylan was furious. "So, now it's my fault? Sure, I wanted to hit you, but I'd never injure you so badly!"

Twisting the facts and refusing to admit fault was too much.

Angrily, he turned to Mavis and complained, "Mae, look at him. He's still so arrogant. He doesn't think he did anything wrong. He—"

Before he could finish, Nathaniel let out a soft hiss, interrupting him. He hunched over with his face scrunched up as if trying to endure the pain.

Mavis noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"

"My knee… It hurts a bit," Nathaniel replied.

The three people around him were perfectly aware that he was faking his injury, and they all silently watched him put on his act.
