The assistant looked at Jodie, slightly disoriented. "Jodie? Why are you still here?"

Jodie lowered her gaze and looked at the woman she had fired. "Why did you turn back?"

The assistant retrieved the card from her pocket. "I saw this and realized I might have misunderstood you. So I turned back and saw the entire scenario. Jodie, I'm so sorry to have doubted you!"

Jodie shook her head as she did not mind the apology. "There's nothing to apologize for. As long as you bring the card to that company, they'll give you a pretty good position."

The assistant nodded, but her gaze lingered on Rue and Ian.

"Jodie, thank you, but there's something I need to do before I go!"

Jodie pulled her arm again as she frowned with caution. "What are you doing?!"

The assistant looked at Jodie sincerely. "I know you only said what you said because of Ian and Rue! You shouldn't have covered for them like this! I will tell others the truth!"

Jodie grabbed onto her arm tightly with disapproval. "No, don't. There's no point in doing that. So what if you told the truth? You're right, being the head of the finance department, I have great power over the company..."

"But as a general manager, he's different. He can't have rumors flying around as I can. He's the future inheritor to the company, do you understand me?"

The assistant was confused. "Jodie, I don't understand. Even if you and Ian were siblings, why are you so good to him?"

She lifted the box on the ground and handed it over to the assistant. "No special reason. Go there quickly! I'll give them a call later, and you should be able to start work today."

"Mommy, did you sleep well last night?"

Rachel nuzzled Ziggy's head and rubbed her face against his. "With my baby here, how could I not sleep well?"
