Jessica remained pressed against the door, staying alert in case Leon changed his mind and tried to come closer again.

Leon glanced at her, his expression still tinged with something complicated.

He said nothing more and pushed open the window.

Just as he was about to climb out, Jessica suddenly spoke. “Each year, the team that wins the Autumn Hunt, if led by a prince or royal, receives the Royal Guard token.”

She continued, “Though the Royal Guard isn’t large in number, it’s crucial for the defense of Capitalia. Whoever holds the Royal Guard token controls at least one–third of the military force within Capitalia.”

Besides the Royal Guard, Capitalia also had the Imperial Guard and the Palace Guard, both directly under the King’s command.

But the Royal Guard was responsible for the city’s overall safety and held enormous influence.

Jessica added, “This year marks the first time Your Highness is joining the Autumn Hunt after years of campaigns at opportunity. If you win, the King will surely take great notice. That could do wonders for your future.”

“Jessica, are you… advising me now?” Leon’s eyes lit up with a hint of a smile.

“I’m not. Just a polite reminder,” Jessica replied expressionlessly.

Leon, however, seemed to be in an excellent mood. He gave her one last glance, then leapt lightly out the window.

By the time Jessica walked over, his tall figure had already vanished into the darkness of the night.

She let out a long breath and, after a moment, went to open the door. “Get in.”

Monica crept in carefully, still shaken. “Miss…”

“You dared to eavesdrop on Prince Leon? Are you tired of living?” Jessica said as she walked over and uncovered the night–luminescent pearl, instantly bathing the room in a soft, clear light.

The room instantly lit up.

Monica hurried over with a robe and draped it over Jessica. “Ms. Yates, your nightgown is too thin. He saw everything!”

Jessica glared at her. “Then why didn’t you come in and rescue me?”

Monica explained, “If I had come in, I would’ve been dead for sure! Besides… I suspect he already knew I was outside.”

Leon’s martial skills were extraordinary. If Jessica could hear Monica was outside the door, Leon could hear her too.

Jessica didn’t argue with that.

If Leon had truly wanted to deal with Monica, he would’ve acted already. But she could feel it too. He didn’t hold any hostility toward the people of the Yates family. None whatsoever.

If anything, there was genuine kindness.

But what she couldn’t figure out was her past with Leon. They had practically no interaction.
