The King proclaimed, “You and Dayton share a profound devotion and have stood together through life and death. I am deeply moved. By royal decree, you are hereby granted the title of Lady Leanna and rewarded with a fortune in gold.”

She stared at Jessica, stunned and completely at a loss.

Jessica chuckled. “Well, what are you waiting for? Thank His Majesty for this great honor.”

Only then did it sink in for Leanna. Overwhelmed, she bowed deeply, her voice trembling as she stammered, “Th–thank you, Your Majesty.”

She never imagined that today, not only would Jessica publicly acknowledge her, but the King himself would officially recognize her union with Dayton.

An unconventional union without proper formalities was always considered improper. Yet with the King’s own decree, her status was fully and publicly

validated.

Leanna thought to herself, ‘General Algernon probably won’t drive me away anymore. I can stay in Dayton’s old courtyard, tending to the place where he grew up, and live out my days in peaceful remembrance.‘

As Leanna lowered her head, tears streamed down her face.

Jessica gently supported Leanna, still holding her hand, and together they returned to stand with the rest of the Yates family.

The crowd, who had just been mocking the Yates family as a “brigade of women,” now found themselves unable to laugh.
