Chapter 212
Chapter 212
Leanna first encountered Dayton in a humble border town, her small town upbringing having instilled in her open–mindedness and refreshing directness; unlike noble ladies nurtured in complex settings, her thoughts possessed a beautiful simplicity.
Despite being in her twenties, her carefree spirit maintained a childlike innocence that was especially endearing, even to Alivia.
Alivia smiled, “We’re all in on Jessica’s plan! If she wants first place, let’s give Leon House a real challenge!” Leanna glanced at Jessica.
Jessica fixed her gaze on Alivia. “Alivia, do you agree that Leon House is the only challenge worth pursuing?”
Saying that aloud was blunt and could hurt feelings, but honesty was essential for staying true to oneself. Alivia nodded. “Yes.”
Garbisch rubbed his forehead, exasperated. “Alivia, those words… Please watch your language.”
Alivia glanced at him sideways. “Who am I but a simple woman? What do I know about ‘minding my words‘? Garbisch, are you trying to silence me now?”
A cold sweat broke out on Garbisch’s brow, “Alivia, I wouldn’t dream of it!”
Jessica chuckled softly. “Leanna, go get your trophy!”
“Leave it all to me! I’ll haul it back myself!” Karlie declared confidently.
Leanna charged forward on horseback, eager to claim the wild boar, only to find she’d been beaten to it–men were already hauling the beast away. “That’s my kill.” Leanna frowned.
“I hit it! My arrow’s still in there,” the youngest daughter of the Shaffer family announced. Though her riding and archery weren’t master–level, she was far more skilled than most girls.
Jessica urged her horse forward, her gaze fixed on the wild boar carried by the Shaffer family guards. With a frown, she stated, “Ms. Shaffer, your arrow only grazed the boar’s hind leg, while Leanna landed three arrows squarely in its heart. Therefore, this wild boar belongs to the Yates family.”
“Who says it’s yours? My arrow’s still in it, isn’t it?” Scarlett scoffed, her contempt obvious. “Besides, my men reached it first. Since when did you get to claim it?”
The Shaffer family’s young master arrived, asking, “What’s all this about?”
Scarlett glared at him, instantly protesting, “That wild boar was my kill! See? Only my arrows are in it!” Just before, the guards had silently taken away and disposed of Leanna’s three arrows, leaving the wild boar with only Scarlett’s arrow in it.
Scarlett smirked provocatively at Jessica, her eyes flashing. “See that? What’s mine is mine! You think you can challenge me? Who do you think you are? You’re nothing!”
Garbisch’s face darkened at Scarlett’s words, and he stepped forward, warning sternly, “Ms. Shaffer, mind your language!” His voice was ice–cold, with the unyielding authority unique to soldiers.
Scarlett, startled, instinctively retreated behind the young master of the Shaffer family, but upon recognizing the person, she immediately straightened up, sneering, and said, “Oh, it’s just you! I thought it was someone important–turns out it’s just that so–called man again!”
