“What are you implying?” Scarlett snapped. “When has the Shaffer family ever been anything but the best? Do you honestly believe your pathetic threats intimidate me?”

Jessica simply smiled, a challenge in her eyes. “Try me.”

She turned to her group, a confident smile on her face. “We’re done for today. Leanna, just bag a few game by sunset–that’s all we need to make it to the second round tomorrow. As for what we do before then…”

Turning back to the Shaffer siblings, she smiled, a beautiful but menacing expression. “Before sunset, shadow their team closely, assigning one of ours to each of theirs. Ensure they don’t get a single shot off.”

Scarlett’s voice trembled with anger as she glared at Jessica. “Jessica Yates, you…”

“Got it!” Leanna gripped her long arrow, her face beaming with excitement. “I’ll make sure she doesn’t get a single shot off!”

“Then I’ll join you for a little game, Mr. Shaffer,” Alivia said, her amiable smile belying the chill it sent down one’s spine.

Karlie grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Guess I’ll just pick one at random,” she said eagerly, eager to jump into action.

Garbisch could only shrug, defeated. “Well,” he sighed, under Jessica’s command, “I guess I’ll pick one too,” he added with reluctance.

Approaching the guard with the wild boar, Jessica wore a radiant but dangerous smile, saying sweetly, “Precedent dictates disputed game doesn’t count. So, about this boar? None of us get it.” With a sharp flick, she unsheathed the dagger at her hip.

A blur of steel was all they saw. The guard’s terrified scream pierced the air as he stumbled backward, panic–stricken.

The blade flashed, threatening to shred him, but when he regained his composure, he was unscathed, while the wild boar he’d been carrying was now a gory mess on the ground.

Blood splattered the ground, soaking even Scarlett’s clothes in crimson. “Ah!” Scarlett shrieked, stumbling back as blood splashed onto her gown.

Diablo stared at Jessica, so shocked he could barely draw breath.

‘What? She was stunning–an absolute angel! But with that dagger, she looked like a demon straight from hell! Absolutely terrifying,‘ Diablo thought, utterly shocked.

News of the Yates family targeting the Shaffer family quickly spread throughout the hunting grounds, drawing curious onlookers, including teams with packed bags, eager to witness the unfolding drama.

The Shaffer family was beyond exasperated–their anger was so intense, they were practically ready to fight.

“Enough!” Scarlett shrieked, frustrated as her arrow was deflected once more. Wheeling around, she glared at Leanna–still holding her bow–and stamped her foot in fury.

“How dare you!” she raged, her voice dripping with disdain. “You filthy peasant girl–how dare you! Do you think I won’t beat you to death?” She was a hair’s breadth away from shooting that deer.

She had waited so long for that deer to appear, but just as before, Leanna knocked down every arrow she shot.

The Shaffer family hasn’t caught anything since dawn; with it past noon and judging starting in just over an hour, they’ll likely be disqualified from

tomorrow’s second round at this rate.
