Leon fell silent, and his deep eyes fixed intently on Jessica, lost in thought.

Jessica didn’t disturb him either.

She knew he was feeling wronged again.

‘Nine years… Ultimately, it is all my fault. I’d led him astray for nine long years. If I hadn’t told him back then i’d marry him when I grew up, would he stil be so hung up on me all these years?” Jessica wondered, a trace of guilt flickering in her heart.

To her surprise, Leon chuckled softly.

Jessica frowned. “What’s so funny?”

Leon remained silent, simply placing the empty cup on the side table. He had finished drinking his coffee.

Jessica stood up and refilled his cup. As she offered it to him, Leon took the cup with one hand while his other large palm firmly enclosed hers.

Jessica instinctively tugged her hand, but when he held on, her brows knitted. “I’m grateful to you, and… I don’t dislike you,” she said hesitantly, “but it’s not proper for a man and a woman to be this close.”

Leon chuckled, “You kissed me when you were little, but you’d forgotten about it.”

“What nonsense are you talking about?” Jessica exclaimed, her face flushing crimson.

To her surprise, Leon’s handsome face flushed even deeper.

Jessica could see a flush spreading down his neck in an instant.

Overcome with curiosity, Jessica instinctively reached out and removed Leon’s mask.

Sure enough, his face was flushed crimson.

“Is he blushing?” Jessica wondered in disbelief.

Leon downed the coffee in one gulp, set the cup aside, and lifted his gaze to Jessica, who stood awkwardly before him.

Leon grinned and said, “Back then, you were just over a year old. You came to the palace with your mother to visit my mother. You were still toddling on your unsteady legs, yet you threw yourself into my arms and even planted a kiss on me.”

“Nonsense!” Jessica exclaimed. “Why would I kiss you out of the blue?”

‘Besides, who remembers anything from when they were one? With my mom gone, you could make up any story you want. No one could prove otherwise, thought Jessica.

Leon’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “It’s true,” he said. “Later, I kept wondering why you kissed me the moment you saw me. After much deliberation I could only come up with one reason.”

Though Jessica didn’t quite belleve him, she couldn’t help asking, “And what reason is that

I’m just too handsome for you to resist.”

‘Her little hand is still just as soft and squishy as when she was a child, almost boneless. It’s just so comforting to hold, thought Leon.

Leon snorted dismissively. “Don’t even mention someone like Waldo. He can’t hold a candle to me.”

“Your Highness,” Jessica mocked, “haven’t you heard? When confidence goes too far, it becomes arrogant.”

“You’re calling me ‘Your Highness‘ again,” Leon teased, but wasn’t upset. After all, he’d been holding her hand the whole time, and she hadn’t pulled

away.

He was in an excellent mood.

Jessica stared at him for a long moment before finally asking softly, “So… Is that why you rushed in without regard for your own life when you knew I was in danger?”
