She hurried into the restroom, ducked into a stall, and closed her eyes as she leaned against the door. Drawing in a few deep, steadying breaths, she willed herself to calm down.

Just now, Gilbert had only brushed the corner of her eye, and yet every inch of her skin had erupted in goosebumps.

She knew then—her condition was worsening.

It was happening. Faster than she’d expected.

Gradually, her breathing evened out and the goosebumps faded away. Sherilyn pulled herself together, unlocked the stall, and stepped back out.

At the sink, she turned on the faucet, washed her hands, and had just grabbed a paper towel to dry them when—

“Sherilyn!”

A shrill female voice sliced through the air.

Sherilyn froze, startled. She looked up, meeting a familiar face in the mirror.

She turned around, confusion flickering across her face. “Karol?”

She was puzzled, because Karol was now dressed in a server’s uniform from the yacht. Why?

“What are you—?”

“What am I doing here?”

Karol’s lips twisted into a sneer. “Working as a waitress, is that what surprises you?”

That was exactly what Sherilyn had been wondering.

“You’ve got some nerve even asking me that!”

Karol’s face contorted with rage, her voice scraping raw with fury.

“This is all your fault! Sherilyn, you’re absolutely heartless! I’m like this because of you—because you ruined me!”

Ruined her? How? Sherilyn didn’t understand a word.

“Karol, I haven’t even seen you in ages,” Sherilyn replied coolly. “I honestly don’t have the time or energy to mess with you.”

She arched an eyebrow and started to walk past.

“Stop right there!” Karol blocked her path.

“What do you want?” Sherilyn frowned, glancing at the name tag pinned to Karol’s chest. “If you don’t move, I’ll have to report you.”

“Report me? Ha!”

Karol’s laugh was harsh, her eyes rimmed red.

“Yes, ma’am!”

But before the guard could move, Gilbert had already arrived. He’d seen the whole terrifying scene unfold.

“Mr. Harrison!”

“Sherilyn!”

Gilbert strode forward in two long steps, sweeping Sherilyn into his arms and holding her tightly against his chest.

“Mr. Harrison…”

Karol’s eyes filled with rage at the sight of him. She surged forward, but Candida blocked her path, shoving her back.

Karol staggered, falling hard to the floor. The knife slipped and slashed her arm, blood immediately welling up and dripping onto the tiles.

“Mr. Harrison, I’m hurt!” Karol cried out.

But Gilbert didn’t even hear her. He was focused entirely on the woman in his arms, searching her face for any sign of injury.

“Sherilyn, are you alright? Did she hurt you?”

Sherilyn was rigid in his embrace, her whole body trembling uncontrollably as her condition worsened. She was powerless to stop it.
