Pearl didn't know why Darius had been kidnapped. She hoped it was for money because if it wasn't, it could mean they wanted to harm him.

This thought caused her a sudden, sharp worry. But all she could do was wait.

She kept checking her phone, hoping for any news about Darius, either from Wayne or the kidnappers.

After what felt like forever, Richard finally woke up before Pearl heard anything about Darius. He was calling out for Darius as he came to.

Since Richard was now in a regular hospital room, Pearl could visit him. She rushed to his side and held his hand gently.

As Richard opened his eyes and saw Pearl looking tired and worn out, he felt sorry for her. He wanted to comfort her by touching her hair, but he was too weak.

"Don't move," Pearl said, managing a smile. "The doctor mentioned you need to stay still to heal from your surgery. Just rest, and you'll get better soon."

Richard nodded, his voice scratchy from just waking up. "Can I have some water?" he asked.

Pearl quickly poured him a glass and helped him drink by holding it to his lips.

"He should be asleep, it's very late now," Richard said.

"Yeah, it's past eleven now. Do you know how long you've been out today?" Pearl tried to steer the conversation away from Darius to keep her emotions in check.

"I can't believe I caused the accident because I got distracted. I hate that Darius had to suffer because of it," Richard said guiltily.

He thought about the accident, still shaken. He had tried to protect Darius and felt terrible that his quick reactions were the only thing that prevented something worse.

Richard had finally found his son after much difficulty and couldn't bear the thought of him getting hurt.
