Although Finnegan had agreed to go, he still felt reluctant about visiting the bar with Esther.

Esther seemed melancholic, and Finnegan noticed. "What's wrong? You're not happy to see me?"

"It's not that," Esther replied, picking up her drink. After a sip, she coughed from the strength of the liquor. "It's so strong. Why does it burn like that?"

Finnegan, not wanting to make her feel worse, gently patted her back. "Maybe take it slower if it's too much for you."

"I can handle my drink. I just took too big a gulp, that's all."

"Alright, I won't argue with you."
