I nervously paced my office, biting my bottom lip until I could taste blood. I repeatedly wiped my hands on my skirt, but they remained sweaty. During times like these, I wish Xavien were here, comforting me. How did he manage to do this every day? Knowing he could lose a family member any second of the day. When I heard the sound of my account receiving an email, I froze.
Grow up, Scar!
I quickly made my way over to my desk, frowning at my father's email showing up. I swallowed before opening it, calming myself as I began reading.
"Hello, Scarlett.
You may want to go home and check on your lover."
I didn't think twice as I grabbed my keys and sprinted out of my office. I trampled down the stairs, not too anxious to waste my time with the elevator. As soon as I was in my car, I had it started and backing out, closing my door during all of this. My knuckles were white from how hard I was gripping the steering wheel, the only thing in my mind is a plea to whatever god, to keep my man safe.
An idea formed in my head as I quickly dialed Darius' number at the red light.
"Hello?" Darius sighed.
"Where is Melody?" I asked.
"Getting my release papers, why?"
"My father emailed me back, telling me to check on Xavien. He's at the house...alone."
"Fuck. Don't go there, Scar. Wait for me."
"Hurry up...well, as fast as you can go."
I hung up as soon as I turned into the neighborhood, anger driving me mad. I'm so sick and tired of my so called father dictating my life. Making me afraid to live like a regular human being should. I'm sick and tired of fearing for my life every day, but now, fearing for my family's life. He had hurt Darius and Anthony already, I don't want him hurting my man.
I took a deep breath as I parked in front of the house, frowning at the black SUV's out front. I silently slipped out of my car, holding my head up high as I strode towards the porch. Two, large men were standing in front of the door, their faces blank and their hands holding their guns.
"Hello, boys," I greeted icily.
The one man frowned at me, "Are you Scarlett?"
"Duh."
They went to grab me, but I quickly found their pressure points, making them useless. I swiftly grabbed their guns, hiding them in my purse. I know my father, he'll make his other men feel me up, seeing if I had any weapons. I looked around, noticing no one else was watching.
"Guns are in my purse, I have a pocket knife, don't worry. Purse is hidden behind the bushes," I texted Melody and Darius before placing my purse in its spot.
I then grabbed my pocket knife and shoved it into my pocket. The perks of being a female, I can carry around lipstick without being questioned. In this case, a knife disguised as lipstick. There are some memories I have of my father, the main one being, he's gullible.
"I'm home!" I shouted, walking into the house.
"Ah, so she finally came."
I followed his voice to the dining room, swallowing when I saw Xavien. He was kneeling on the ground with duct tape over his mouth, his hands tied behind his back, blood soaking his shirt and hair, bruises forming on his face and the visible parts of his chest, and was hanging his head. As if he were giving up.
"Xavien," I said softly.
He snapped his head up, his eyes wide with disbelief and horror. He started screaming through the duct tape, but my father swiftly quieted him by taking a crowbar and hitting him in the ribs.
"Silence!" My father snarled.
I clenched my jaw, fuck the answers I want, this man has over stayed his welcome on this earth and in my life. I studied every man in the room, counting them. There were six all together, including the one man I loathed.
Gabriel.
He wasn't doing anything though, he was actually laying on the ground, a pool of blood around him. It was then that I noticed he wasn't moving nor breathing. He was dead.
"Oh, him?" My father grinned. "He was useless, I was bored and needed some entertainment. I think he's alive still...don't know. But I think death would be the perfect punishment for betrayal."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What?"
"He seemed to have had some...enlightenment while your pretty boy here tortured him. He tried protecting pretty boy, but he was already too weak. I have no idea what the hell changed his mind. Selfish."
"How is he selfish?"
He smirked, "You see...he didn't want to treat you the way he did. Raping you was pushing him too far, but fortunately, I'm smarter than he is. You know how much he loves his mother."
My eyes widened, "What did you do?"
"I used her as blackmail, bullying you so his mother wouldn't be tortured. I then told him to destroy you by raping you, man, was that one hell of a battle. He killed two of my men who tried beating him into agreeing to do it. He took multiple beatings to his stomach until I shot his mother in front of him. Of course, the hag is still alive. I kept my end of the bargain, she's in the hospital."
My heart ached, his mother is the sweetest woman I had ever met. She's paralyzed now, after a car accident which had killed her husband, three years ago. But she would always wear a smile, especially when embarrassing Gabriel.
"Getting him to sexually assault Melody was also a battle. But he quickly agreed when I cut his mother on the arm. Pretty sure he's just as scarred as you two. Of course, I did far more than that. I also threatened to kill his one year old niece and sister."
"You are a sick bastard!" I snarled.
He chuckled, "I know."
He frowned as he glanced at Gabriel, "I am wondering if he's still alive...Kean, kick him in the stomach. See if he vomits again."
I watched the largest man walked over and kicked Gabriel in the stomach, causing him to groan before gagging.
"Good, I'll kill him after I'm done here."
Xavien glared at him and tried fighting again, but he was hit with the crowbar, once again. I clenched my jaw, a part of me felt somewhat bad for Gabriel, but I was more focused on Xavien.
"Now, my reasoning for all of this," my father sounded.
I focused back on him, silently thinking of how long it will take for Darius to get here. I should have five minutes.
"You see, a friend of mine offered to buy you from me...for eighty grand. I could do a lot with that money, like pay off my debts. Sadly, Xavien here seemed to have fallen in love with you. Pathetic," he sneered.
"H-hands," Gabriel groaned, looking at me.
I gaped at him when I saw his face, there is no way he'll be able to see out of that one eye. I then frowned, hands? I watched he glanced at Xavien who winked at me.
Oh.
Still don't get it.
I was still puzzled when my father was suddenly behind me, wrapping his arm around my throat. Movement from outside caught my attention, I fought my smile when I saw Darius standing right beside the window. Holding the gun in his hand.
"Now, what I'm going to do is take you to my car. Once we're a good few miles away, my men here will release Xavien. And then you'll all be happy, well, somewhat happy."
I looked towards the window again, noticing it was open. "Get Gabriel out of here," I ordered before slipping my knife out and plunging it into my father's leg. As soon as I was free, Xavien was suddenly standing with his hands free. When I saw the blade in his hands, I finally understood. Gabriel gave him his knife.
All hell broke lose as bullets flew through the window, from Darius, Melody, and from somewhere on another roof.
Silas.
I turned and quickly slit the shortest guy's throat before stabbing another. I looked over to see Darius and Melody trying to pick Gabriel up without hurting him. I swiftly focused back on the current chaos, becoming numb to the act of taking one's life. I froze when I felt a gun being pressed against my head, the sound of it being loaded filled my ears.
Who loads a gun while having it against someone's head?
I slowly turned around, allowing my father to press it against my forehead. His eyes were dark with rage as he glared at me, his jaw clenched.
"Go ahead," I spat. "Kill me. Your daughter."
He swallowed, "I have always hated you."
"Looks like we're finally on the same page," I chuckled. "I have always hated you too, daddy."
"Stop that."
"What? Calling you what I used to when I a child? Always loving my father, even though he would one day kill me?"
