"Eliza! Open the door!"

Louis's slightly hoarse voice sounded outside the door, startling me.

"Eliza! If you have the guts, say you want to break up to my face!

Open the door!"

I sighed, not rushing to open the door.

Instead, I first changed into comfortable, warm clothes.

Opening the door, Louis wasn't wearing a coat.

The cold of March in New York still carried a bone-chilling chill, but Louis seemed completely unaffected.

"Come in."

Stepping aside slightly, I calmly sat down on the sofa.

After years of marriage, I had been ground down by Louis into a temperament that was unmoved by favor or disgrace.

Louis didn't sit. Under the light, his tall shadow seemed to envelop me tightly.

"Eliza, who gave you the courage to divorce me?"

Louis stared at me intensely, his eyes full of anger.

Instead, I looked at him strangely, somewhat exasperated.

"It's not the first time I've brought up divorce with you, what's the point of saying these things?"

"Louis, you don't really think I love you to death, do you?"

Louis's face looked very unpleasant, as if I had hit a sore spot.

When we first got together, I did indeed like him.

As the golden boy of a wealthy family, his looks were really outstanding.

When he was pursuing me, that childlike innocence he put on was indeed very charming.

But he overlooked one thing.

No normal person would remain devoted to someone who abuses them.
