Back when Willow had begged him to believe that Aaron was his son, he had refused. But now, as she claimed Aaron had no father, he found himself entertaining the possibility that Aaron might truly be his son.

Zayn, usually so tough and composed, couldn’t help the tremble that ran through his body. 

If Aaron was truly his son, it meant Willow hadn’t aborted their child four years ago. It meant she had a legitimate reason for breaking things off with him. 

And yet, he had ruthlessly sought revenge against her, even forsaking his own flesh and blood at the cliff’s edge. 

Zayn’s fists tightened abruptly, though his fingers still trembled violently. 

Aaron ended up crippled. It was his fault that his own son was now disabled. 

Furthermore, Aaron was lucky to have survived the fall. From such a height, the more probable outcome would have been a broken body, and death without a complete corpse. “Willow, I..‘ 

Zayn wanted to pour his heart out to Willow, but he found himself at a loss for words. 

“Mr. Carter, please, don’t ever mention Aaron again. You’ve already caused him.. caused him to be crippled. If you have any decency left, just leave him out of this.” Willow’s voi was firmas she took a deep breath. 

“Mr. Carter, it’s time for you to go. You’re really not welcome here.” 

Zayn didn’t want to leave, but the thought that Aaron might be his son lett him feeling more vulnerable than ever. 

For the first time, when Willow asked him to leave, he didn’t respond with aggression. Instead, he grabbed his clothes and left in a hurry. 

Standing in the hallway, he quickly threw on his shirt. His tall, rugged frame and striding good looks could still barn heads. 

But now, his face showed none of life’s usual emotions. There was only deep–seated loneliness. 

With a sigh, he lit a cigarette, exhaling smoke. Yet, after a few puffs, he remembered Willow’s aversion to men who smoked. Grimacing, he crushed the cigarette. 

After a long pause, he finally reached for his phone and dialed Liam’s number. 

“Boss, what’s going on?” Liam’s relaxed evening with friends abruptly shifted as he answered Zayn’s call. He instantly snapped into alert mode. 

“I need a paternity test.” 

Upon hearing this, Liam almost choked on his own saliva. He knew better than to pry into Zayn’s personal life, but the request caught him off guard. Liam hesitated for a moment before cautiously asking, “Boss, do you have an illegitimate child you didn’t know about?” 

The words “illegitimate child” made Zayn inexplicably irritated.
