Watching Aaron take another fall, Tommy couldn’t help but burst into laughter. He collapsed onto the ground with amusement. 

He turned toward Jenny. “Hey, cripple! Always tripping over yourself! Girls shouldn’t hitch themselves to cripples! It’s bad luck!” 

“Only fools would tie the knot with a cripple! I’m no foul” Jenny shot back, tossing her head with disdain and pointedly turning away, showing her contempt for the disal 

In truth, even at such a tender age, kids already grasp gender roles. 

At that age, they might not understand love and such, but instinctively, they care more about how the opposite sex would view them than how their peers do. 

Jenny’s rejection only reinforced Aaron’s belief that he was a hopeless cripple, doomed to remain unwed. 

Aaron stubbornly sniffed and was about to fight to get up when Zayn scooped him into his arms.
