I turned around, the smile never leaving my face. "There you have it. I hope you have good lawyers."
A couple of them began to cry and shake their heads, some of them getting on their knees. A few however, still looked pretty defiant. Including Big Ben.
"You’re bluffing," he scoffed, "There’s no way you two can afford it with how poor you must be."
I hummed, fighting back the urge to laugh. I’d severely underestimated how retarded these men could be.
Tom pointed to my bike which was parked in the lot. "That bike is enough to buy the whole apartment."
All the blood seemed to leave Big Ben’s face. His legs wobbled as he tried to control his shock.
Even I was stunned. How the hell had I missed that?
The men looked incredibly flabbergasted at Tom’s words. He was looking at all of them with a certain level of disdain that was evident in his glare.
The one who had called himself Big Ben immediately knelt before me, his fat eyes already watering with tears.
"P—please," he cried, "Have mercy on me. I’m so sorry, ma’am. I beg for your forgiveness."
I simply glared down at him. If the situation wasn’t so serious, I would have let out a laugh. Maybe given his face a redo with one punch from my hand.
But Tom beat me to it as he came up to stand beside me. His glare was fixed on Big Ben and he glared down at him with a certain disgust that I hadn’t quite seen in him before.
"You’re fired from this establishment. I don’t want to see anything that belongs to you in the next one hour or else."
Big Ben continued to shake his head and wail but Tom didn’t look like he’d be moved by any of that.
He turned to the other guards who were watching everything play out, their faces holding expressions of bafflement.
"You can all leave as well. As from now, you’re no longer to be seen within this premises."
I turned away from him, unwilling to look at them or even pretend I gave a damn about their cries. It meant nothing to me seeing them this way. It was more or less a price to pay for their impudence and I’d be damned if I acted like I gave a single fuck about what happened to them.
There was something called consequences and it seemed they were just learning about it now.
Tom ignored them and turned to me, his eyes now softened. "I’m really proud of you, Giselle."
My eyes scoured the place and I found myself unable to hold back my excitement. My gaze fell back to Merhold who was watching me with an amused smile on his face.
"Like what you see?" he asked.
I nodded, the smile evident on my face. Another thing popped into my head and I found myself asking him another question.
"Does that mean Merhold is the architect of the apartment?"
Tom’s gaze seemed to linger on me for a while. I wondered what could be going through his head. Maybe I’d asked the wrong question?
Surprisingly, he nodded his head after a while, his lips tugging into a small smile that made his eyes crinkle.
"Yes. Mr. Merhold is the architect of the building."
I hummed contentedly, letting that fact roll through my head a couple of times. Just knowing that Merhold was the one behind such a marvellous place made me want to work harder at my work to become someone of value and someone who could also put her passion into what she produced.
I turned to Lillian who was still gushing over the house. "You like the place?"
