Both men had serious expressions on their faces. I knew Froste was heavily competitive and wouldn't back down from any competition whatsoever.
Askhan had a similar aura around him, his grin near maniacal as he watched Froste. Even though technology was gradually integrating into werewolf life, it didn't change the fact that ancestral werewolf genes had continued to live on ever since.
"Hope you don't break, your highness." Froste had a smirk on his face.
"Watch yourself." Askhan's eyes narrowed on him.
They both looked pretty eager to show themselves in front of the only female here which happened to me. I guessed it was something ingrained in the ancestral werewolf genes. They would always be competitive and eager to show off so long as there was a woman to be impressed.
Their wolves didn't look keen on admitting defeat either. Their growls and snarls rang in my ear as a cautionary sound.
"We're ready whenever you are, Giselle." Askhan had a confident smirk on his face.
"Hit us with the questions." Froste folded his arms, eagerly waiting for me to start with the questions.
They looked like they were probably expecting some hard questions. I racked my brain, wondering what would be the best thing to do.
An idea popped into my head. I'd already felt the presence and now I was sure of my hunch.
Without giving it another thought, I spread my arms out in the open. The two men looked confused, probably wondering what must have gotten into me. Eminence stepped a bit closer to me and Ragnar followed suit.
They both looked pretty cautious as they eagerly watched me. My words were like a life line for them and they were anxiously waiting on it.
A small growl pierced the sudden silence. Just then, a light grey wolf entered the courtyard. Its fur seemed to glisten as it made its way towards us. It was slightly smaller than Eminence and Ragnar were.
Its eyes glanced over all the people present before they finally landed on me. Small eyes widened into saucers and it made its way to me with great agility.
"Hello." I greeted the wolf with a small smile.
The wolf stopped before me and gave me a high five with its front paws. The grey wolf's eyes glistened with something that looked like happiness.
Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around him. Eminence and Ragnar looked curious at the scene that was playing out.
"Who's wolf is that?" Froste was the first to break the silence.
I silently processed his words. A part of me wondered if it was possible now. If maybe, I'd ever be able to do this with them. I had to hold on to that hope even if the chances of me getting my own wolf back always seemed to waver.
The grey wolf barked, wagging its tail excitedly at me. It was almost like it had sensed my emotions and realized that I was sad in some way.
"What's its name?" I asked, running my fingers through its lush fur.
"Meredin." Olavir answered, his eyes still holding that sadness of a few moments ago.
I nodded, focusing my gaze on patting the wolf softly. The sight of his sad eyes seemed embedded in my head. I didn't like the fact that he seemed so disturbed by the thought of me not having a wolf. So I chose to ignore it.
After a while, Askhan spoke up. "I've always wondered about Giselle's disappearance."
I perked up at the sound of my name. "What about it?"
He shook his head. "I'd tried to do some investigation about it but the clues always turned out to be pretty vague and barely even understandable."
