The tension in the air seemed to thicken with each passing second. My gaze flickered to Askhan who was watching Froste with an unreadable expression in his eyes.
It was almost like everyone was holding their breaths, waiting for some spark or anything to break the suffocating silence.
There was an air of calmness to Froste as he watched my brother. "You said there was a time where I wasn’t interested in money or positions. I’m not interested in that today either. The only thing I was interested in from the beginning was Giselle."
His eyes flickered to me briefly before turning back to Greyven. "It’s always been her and it’ll always be her."
Askhan looked mad now. Without warning, he made his way to Froste, glaring at him with a hate that seemed to stem from the very depths of his soul.
"She is not a ‘thing’ so shut the hell up." He gritted his teeth in anger.
To his credit, Froste was doing a pretty good job of keeping his cool. A part of me wondered if he was panicking deep down.
He was in this room with multiple who would demand his head if it was possible. Yet, his eyes still held that calm that made me let out a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding.
"I never meant it that way," Froste replied calmly, "I’m sure you got the message I was trying to pass across. I want Giselle, and I’m going to prove to her that I’m worthy of being with her again. That’s my plan."
I could see Askhan’s hand trembling by his hand. He still looked pissed as hell and I wasn’t sure what exactly he would do to Froste if he wasn’t holding back.
"Oh yeah?" Askhan laughed, his tone filled with mockery and disdain. "You treated her like shit and now you have the nerve to come here and spout all this bullshit about wanting her back and proving your pathetic self. Give me a fucking break."
"There’s nothing to explain there. I know what I mean deep down and I know it wasn’t hard to get my message." Froste said, his voice a bit clipped.
Askhan’s hands were still shaking by his side. He looked like he was going to hit Froste any minute now.
"She was treated so badly back in that pathetic pack of yours. At the moment when she needed someone to trust her, where were you, huh? Getting your dick wet with some other whore?"
"That’s enough!" I said to them, my voice leaving no room for debate.
Askhan looked like he wanted to say more but surprising, he backed off. His eyes never left Froste though, and I knew without a doubt that he would gladly put a bullet through Froste’s head if given the chance.
I made my way to Froste and stopped just in front of me. He looked a bit nervous seeing me before him but I knew he was trying his best to put on a brave front.
"It’s going to be hard for me to just forgive you for your distrust, but we’re back to being friends now. Everyone has something they need to do and you should do what you feel worthy of."
Everyone turned to me. I could feel the intensity of their eyes on me but all my focus was on Froste. I wasn’t always one for philosophical quotes and thoughts but it just felt like the best thing to say at the moment.
Olavir cleared his throat and stepped forward. "Let’s go have dinner. I’m starving."
I turned to him, unable to hold back the smile that crept on my face. His words seemed to lighten the tension that had once seemed to suffocate the whole room.
