Serena hesitated for a moment before finally getting into the car, glancing at Aaron who sat in the backseat. After tonight, they would never see each other again.

The car slowly started moving.

Inside, the silence was so intense you could hear a pin drop. No one spoke a word.

Victor, the driver, remained quiet because he knew Aaron's mood was far from pleasant. Even though Miss Sullivan had returned, it was hardly the outcome Mr. Vance desired.

Serena, sitting in the back, had no desire to speak with Aaron. She stared out the window, watching the beautiful town of Moonhaven fade away, replaced by the steel and concrete of the big city.

"It's late tonight," Aaron finally broke the silence, his deep, resonant voice filling the car. "You should stay at Rosewood Gardens."

"Mr. Vance, are you planning to back out?" Serena asked.

Aaron frowned slightly. "Is that how little you trust me?"

"How am I supposed to trust someone who goes back on a contract?" she retorted, referring to the kidney exchange matter.

Aaron's expression turned cold. "I promised I wouldn't see you again, and I intend to keep that promise. Just make sure you don't regret it."

"Regret what?" she challenged.

"Regret never seeing me again."

Serena laughed, exasperated. She took a deep breath before facing Aaron. "Don't worry, Mr. Vance. If I ever regret it, may you come to no good!"

Aaron's face darkened, and hearing her oath only seemed to deepen his scowl.

"Fine! You said it, Serena. Victor, pull over!" Aaron commanded.

Victor promptly stopped the car.

"Get out," Aaron said coldly as the car came to a halt.

Stepping out, Serena realized she was in a desolate area, devoid of hotels or even people. She gritted her teeth and slammed the car door shut.

His fist clenched tightly.

Did she really want nothing to do with him? Was it all because of Cynthia Lynwood?

Thoughts of the men who had been around Serena lately—William, Samuel—flashed through his mind.

He loosened his tie.

"Turn around!" he ordered suddenly.

Victor was startled but then relieved, quickly turning the car around.

Meanwhile, Serena continued her solitary trek towards the city, unaware that a car was following her at a cautious distance.

A few minutes later, the car sped up and stopped beside her.
