"I haven't even started fixing it yet. Recently, I've been cramming on how to repair watches."

"So, you really can't fix watches?"

Serena suddenly realized, "Did you think I was joking with you?"

William gave a resigned smile.

He indeed thought Serena's claim of not having repaired watches before was just modesty.

Serena continued, "So... did you tell the client I've fixed it before?"

"Kind of... yeah!"

"Then I should hurry and send the watch back. If the client finds out you lied..."

William cut her off with a reassuring smile, "Don't worry about it. Just go ahead and try fixing it. Even if you mess it up, it's fine."

"Why?"

"I have the final say."

Serena was skeptical, "Are you sure it won't cause you any trouble?"

"It won't."

Only then did Serena feel at ease.

"Has it rained in Alderburg tonight?"

"Huh?"

The sudden change of topic caught Serena off guard.

William's smile deepened, "No rain in Northspire; the stars are exceptionally bright and the moonlight is beautiful."

"Oh—" Serena didn't understand why William mentioned this.

"Do you remember what I told you last time?"

"What was it?"

William seemed not to hear her, instead murmuring, "I'll tell you when I get to Alderburg. Just promise you won't be mad."

Serena was completely baffled, wanting to ask what William meant, but the call abruptly ended.

Rubbing her temples, Serena walked into the bathroom for a relaxing soak.

She knew she had to leave Alderburg, but how to do so required some serious thought.

"Let's go in."

At four in the morning, the motel's front desk clerk was asleep and didn't notice Serena and Rock enter.

They took the elevator straight to the second floor.

According to Rock, the doctor and nurse had been hiding here since quitting their jobs, rarely venturing out, probably to avoid being found. Their phones were never connected to the internet.

Rock managed to track them down using internal traffic surveillance, pinpointing their last known location near this motel.

"This is it." At room 208, Rock whispered.

Serena took a deep breath and nodded to Rock, signaling she was ready.

Rock knocked on the door, "Room service!"

No response from inside.

Serena's heart raced.

Rock raised his voice, "Room service!"

Finally, faint shuffling noises came from within.

Serena held her breath, clutching her purse tightly.
