Chapter 88
Ryder’s POV
I sighed, falling on my bed with a loud thud. It's been a long day, but I was relieved Caleb was okay thanks to Luna Kaia. It would've gone a different way without her.
But for the moment when we were trying to make sure Caleb was fine, I was able to take my mind off every other thing…Allie. Seeing her in the arms of another person…especially him, felt like the universe was having fun watching me suffer.
Even after everything we had, she was going to let him mark her.
“We ended things, we have no one else to blame." Kaid said, “we deserved it." He was right, I pushed her into his arms and as much as it pained me to admit, she looked happy.
“We were doing it for our mate."
Kaid growled, “she doesn't want us, get over it." He said, and I felt my chest tightened.
Although she didn't end up rejecting me, she didn't accept me either. But she always found her way to me whenever she felt and each time, I promised myself that it was going to be the last time but I end up saying the same thing when it happens again.
Losing Allie was a consequence of my decision I wasn't ready to live with. I fell asleep thinking about her which wasn't a surprise.
The next morning, I woke up with an arm wrapped around me. Only one person would enter my place like this. As much as Laura was my mate, I realized now, that I felt more sparks with Allie than I did with her.
“You knew this and still let her go." Kaid said, and I wanted to remind him that he didn't try to stop but it was useless arguing with him…something that has become a regular occurrence between us.
Moving away from her reach, I stood up from the bed, my movement causing her to open her eyes. She sat upright, a frown appearing on her face.
“Come back to bed," she whined, “I'm still sleepy."
I ignored that, “What are you doing here?" I asked her instead.
She shrugged, "I came to see Luna. She's really disappointed, you know. But once everything falls into place, she wouldn't have anything to worry about.”
"You know that's not what I'm talking about.”
"My wolf has been nagging me, she wanted to see you, so I thought to come over since I was already here.” She said, like it was no big deal.
It hurts that I was only needed when her wolf needed some sort of recharge. It was always going to be like this.
“Leave.” I told her, and her head jerked upward to meet my gaze. Her eyes widened at my request…I also avoided looking directly at her before I would change my mind.
“You're not serious."
“I mean it, Laura. Leave." I repeated.
"You can't seriously be asking me to leave. Is this you throwing a tantrum?" She asked, her voice becoming louder. I have never been more grateful that I didn't move into the pack house completely.
“Call it whatever you want to, as long as it'd get you to leave.”
