Chapter 7
The Moonbinding ceremony was in full swing when doubt began gnawing at Ethan’s mind, that final call echoing in his thoughts.
He gestured to his Beta. “Find Sarah. A spurned mate won’t let this ceremony pass unchallenged.”
During the blood wine ritual with Alexandra, his Beta burst through the sacred circle, terror emanating from his bond.
“Alpha–Sarah boarded the dawn flight to the Eastern Territories. The plane…. it crashed in the Storm
Lands. They’re saying no wolves survived.”
The ceremonial grounds fell silent. The triumph drained from Ethan’s face as the ancient chalice
shattered at his feet.
Pack protocol forgotten, he lunged at his Beta, Alpha power crackling around him. “WHAT? WHERE
IS SHE? Tell me where my mate is!”
Alexandra pressed against him, her voice dripping sweetness. “My love, control yourself. The Elders are watching. Whatever’s happened can wait…”
“My love?”
Her gentle tone–once his anchor–now felt like silver in his veins. He wrenched away from her touch, dragging his Beta beyond the ritual circle.
“What happened to Sarah? She was meant to be in our den! We spoke under this very moon–she gave her word!”
Raw emotion cracked through his Alpha mask, though he couldn’t understand why panic was clawing up his throat. The news of the crash had awakened something primal, something he’d
buried deep.
His Beta pulled up the storm warning on his phone, trembling. “She took that flight, Alpha. With the ceremony preparations, we moved all pack guardians here. The den cameras show she left that night–when you chose Alexandra’s claim over hers.”
Ethan’s grip went slack, his Alpha strength deserting him. For the first time since claiming his crown, true weakness coursed through his veins.
“Impossible,” he whispered. “My mate promised to wait. She blessed our Moonbinding…”
