LILY...
I stared at the cheque for the 5th time since I returned to the office. The six digit number still managed to tremble me, reminding our conversation in the cafe.
Once I agreed to his demand, Theo kept his promise and handed me two cheques signing immediately. One was 450 thousand which was paid as compensation and the other one was 250 thousand, which I kept with myself. This is for grandma.
Honestly, I don't feel much humiliated anymore while managing the money for Grandma. I would simply apologise to Alyssa after cutting all the ties with that family. But, that could wait a little. I have more important work to do.
Picking up my phone, I called Dr. Cane. He picked up after a few rings. "Yes, Miss Lily?" His voice came over and I lightly greeted him.
"Doc I called to inform you that, I managed the money for Grandma's surgery and I want it to happen as soon as possible."
"That's great, Miss Lily. I will inform the surgeons and once the committee decides, I will inform you." He replied. After learning about Grandma's current situation, we hung up.
The next couple of hours passed in workloads. I was busy with my current case and of course, my new teal leader deliberately urged me to give her something juicy regarding the news.
Finally, in the evening, I sighed tiredly and leaned against my chair. I watched the huge digital clock on our floor. It's 6 p.m. and time to go home.
After everything, I just need a good shower, a warm meal and then go to bed. Sliding the sorrows away, I smiled thinking the calmness of night but soon my smile faded away recalling the intruder at home.
I sat straight with a sudden realisation. Wait a minute... He didn't actually call me the entire day! I thought he would nag for food which he didn't. Could it be he remained hungry to keep his male ego intact?
I declined the idea immediately. It's not possible. He didn't seem the one to suffer. He is someone who would fulfil his desire without ruining his ego. Though I hate to admit it, he has the charm to convince anyone and make his way remaining clean.
Hopefully, he wouldn't bring me any trouble while doing that.
Leaving the office, I drove home and took away food for dinner. Didn't exclude Leo this time. After all, I am partially a reason for his state.
As soon as I reached my living area, my car decided to betray me like others and stopped. I tried a few times but it did not start.
"Ugh! Fuck!" Frustrated, I slammed the steering wheel before jumping out of the car. How could a person be so unlucky in every step of her life!? Shit!
Sighing, I called the garage and informed my whereabouts. A few minutes later, I watched my car taken away for repair and started walking home.
It's around ten minutes of walk. The road was empty, sending me chills. It's not that I am new to this road but walking for the first time, which is tensing me a little.
Soon, I took the last turn and I will be reaching home in a few more minutes when I heard some male tones, which alarmed me almost immediately.
Looking up, I saw three men, coming from the opposite side. I have never seen them in this area. This area was small and cheaper than other places. I almost saw all my neighbours but those guys were unknown to me.
They were staring at me and from their getup, they did not seem good guys. My heart started racing at this point, it was my cue to move faster which I did. I don't want any more trouble, my limit has ended for today.
However, as usual, God had to make it difficult for me and those three men blocked my way. I paused and furiously stared at them, suppressing my fear. "Wh-at do you want? Why are you blocking my way!?"
