Mike's P. O. V.

I smirked as Evan forced his way into our little quality time. I know he likes Annie and wants her all to himself but I'm not willing to back down that easily. I like her too.

I could tell Annie wasn't completely happy with him either. I mean she heard him when he said he was embarrassed about being with her which was a douchy thing to say. I don't blame her for being upset. Besides, he was way too confusing with his bullying and playing nice at the same time. But I'll admit, the way he ditched Lily was kind of hilarious. No-one ever dares to ditch the popular girl Lily.

Three of us were hanging out at my house and playing video games.

"Why are you sitting so close to her?" Evan barked. "She doesn't need you breathing down her neck."

"If it bothers her, she would say something," I replied and looked at Annie expectantly.

"It doesn't bother me," Annie smiled shyly.

That's my girl, I thought.

Evan gave me the death stare. I bet he is wishing that he could melt me with that fiery gaze. You wish, bro.

"I should go home soon, my mom might get mad at me," Annie said after a couple of hours.

"Oh no, you can't leave yet! You haven't been here that long. Tell her Evan!" I said.

Evan cleared his throat. "I'll take you home before your mom gets back," he turned to Annie and said.

"You guys are no fun," I said. I was hoping to kick Evan out somehow but now they are talking about leaving together. Not good.

Annie looked down and made a sad face. Is there something going on that I don't know about? She must be scared of her mother.

"Okay, no need to look sad," I chuckled. "I'll let you go but promise to hangout longer next time?" I said.

"Okay," she smiled.

An idea clicked in my head. "I know! Why don't we go to the spring carnival next week?"

Annie's face lit up. "Really? That sounds fun!" she said enthusiastically.

"I'm going too," Evan declared.

"Who invited you?" I laughed.

"Are you saying, I can't?" he challenged. "I thought you are my best friend?"

"You can come too Evan," Annie said quickly.

Evan looked at her and smiled fondly. She smiled back. Now I'm jealous.

"I guess it's fine," I sighed.

Annie's P. O. V.

I'm still confused about both of these boys' sudden interest in me but I decided to go with it. Maybe they feel sorry for me. Although, it seems like Mike is actually interested in me. But am I interested in him?

Either way, it makes me happy that I finally have friends. I've been alone for so long that this seems too good to be true.
