Evan's P.O.V.
Mike came upstairs. Lilly and I were helping Annie with her stuff so I didn't pay attention to him right away.
"Annie, I found something downstairs," he said. "It's a letter from your mom."
"What does it say?" she asked.
I took the letter from Mike and opened it.
Annie,
I am leaving town. I am not telling anyone where I am going so don't bother looking for me. Hah, what am I doing writing you a letter? It's not like you can read it anyway. I hope your precious boyfriend takes good care of you because I am sick of everything. The house is rented so I suggest you go live somewhere else because I am not paying the rent anymore.
Goodbye
Your mother. The note said.
I felt sick to my stomach. This woman was a heartless psycho. She abandoned her only daughter after abusing her for years. If I ever see her I am going to choke the life out of her!
"What does the letter say?" Annie asked again.
"It's nothing," I said. I didn't know how she would react.
"EVAN! Just tell me," she walked forward and searched for me so I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her close.
"Annie, I am sorry but she left," I whispered.
"What to do you mean?" she asked.
"She left town and she said she is not coming back. She left you for good," I told her. I didn't read the exact content of the letter as I didn't want to hurt her feelings.
"Oh I see," she said quietly.
"Why would she do such a thing!" Lily exclaimed.
"She never loved me. I could never make her love me, no matter how hard I tried. Am I that unlovable?" she said, choking back tears.
I crumpled up the note and threw it on the floor then quickly grabbed her. "She is a miserable bitch. It has nothing to do with you. You are perfect," I whispered into her hair.
"You are lying. I am worthless. I can't even see anything now or do anything on my own anymore. No wonder she hates me so much," she said and sobbed as I tightened my arms around her trembling body.
"Don't ever say stuff like that again, Annie! I don't know what the hell is happening with your mother but I know for sure it's not your fault," Mike said and placed his hand on her back.
