Fiona bit her lip.“But I… I… I wasn’t ready yet.” 

Darryl gently caressed her face and softly asked, “Honey, do you like me? Like, in a romantic way.” 

“No!” Fiona denied firmly. 

Darryl chuckled softly and leaned down again to kiss her.“It’s okay. We can develop feelings over time.” 

Darryl deliberately emphasized a word. 

Fiona’s face turned red. 

He was doing it on purpose! 

It was another indulgence.

The winter passed soon, and it was already mid–January. 

That day, Marie received a phone call from Alan. 

“Mariela, I heard that you could play golf.” 

Marie was still wondering why he knew that when she suddenly remembered that she had filled out an application form. In the section for hobbies and interests, she had written that she enjoyed playing golf. 

Marie replied, “Yes, what’s wrong?” 

Alan smiled and said, “I have an important client, Mr. Hardin. He’s the president of BrightPath Group. He likes playing golf, so I made an appointment with him to play golf at the Royal Golf Course in Illinois on January 18th. Would you like to come with me?” 

Marie thought that going with Alan shouldn’t cause any trouble, so she agreed, “Okay, Mr. Casey.” 

“Mr. Hardin has several cases at hand that he can sign with us. If we successfully close the deal, you will receive a commission of twenty percent. I know your family is well–off and you may not care about this small amount of money, but as lawyers, we need to gain more -experience and develop our negotiation skills.” 

The fact that Marie was the daughter of the Logan family had already spread in the law firm, and Alan, of course, had also heard about it.
