Lennon closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side, getting in. 

“Should we grab some breakfast first?” On the road, during a red light, Lennon glanced at Mariela in the backseat through the 

rearview mirror. 

Mariela shook her head.“No, I just want to see Angel as soon as possible.” 

“Okay,” Lennon didn’t insist. 

The man took out his phone and sent a message to Matthew, 

“Prepare some breakfast. Sandwich, baguette, donuts, milk, coffee, also don’t forget some fruits.” 

These were all Mariela’s favorite breakfast items. 

Matthew replied, “Yes, sir.” 

Only the two of them were in the car. 

The air was quiet. 

The light turned green. 

As the car started moving, Mariela suddenly asked, “Was it the police who rescued her, or… your people?” 

Lennon’s tone was calm.“The local police were bought off by Nikolas long ago.” 

The implication was that his people had rescued her. 

Mariela pursed her lips.“Are they okay? Were any of them injured?” 

Lennon was slightly surprised. 

He thought,“Is Marie’s concern for my people an indirect way of showing concern for me?” 

A faint hint of joy appeared at the corners of his eyes. 

He replied, “Nikolas locked Angel in a military base in Lombardy. They were armed, and a few of my men were seriously injured.” 

Mariela’s breath tightened. 

As he spoke, Lennon watched Mariela’s expression through the rearview mirror. 

As expected, Mariela’s expression turned grave upon hearing about the injuries. 

Not wanting her to worry too much, Lennon quickly added, “But it’s okay. None of the injured are in life–threatening condition. They’ll recover after some rest.” 

Mariela finally relaxed.“That’s good.” 

After a brief silence, Mariela asked, “Have you informed my dad and Haleigh?” 

Lennon replied, “They’ve been informed. They’re on their way there now.” 

Mariela softly hummed in acknowledgment, her eyes downcast, lost in thought. 

Lennon’s gaze kept drifting to Mariela in the rearview mirror. 

Seeing her silent and preoccupied, Lennon initiated a conversation.“Why did you get up so early today?” 

Mariela replied absentmindedly, “I haven’t been sleeping well these past few days.” 

Lennon said, “Now that Angel has been rescued, you can finally sleep peacefully.” 

Hearing this, Mariela looked up, meeting Lennon’s gaze in the rearview mirror.
