Lennon’s expression was serious as he replied, “This time, I’ve brought back two groups of mercenaries from abroad. Their training is even more rigorous than those from Nikolas’s military base. With them protecting you and your family, Nikolas’s people won’t be able to harm you again.” 

Mariela was taken aback.“Mercenaries?” 

“Yes,” Lennon’s lips pressed together, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes. “I made a mistake before, failing to protect you and your family. Marie, I promise you, nothing like this will happen again. I will protect you.” 

Mariela’s eyelids drooped slightly, she felt mixed feelings. 

She had wanted to throw out a few sarcastic remarks, but then she remembered how Lennon had risked his life to save her by going alone to meet Nikolas. Then Mariela couldn’t bring herself to say them. 

Seeing Mariela’s silence, Lennon thought she didn’t believe him. His throat tightened, and a wave of bitterness washed over him.

Angelica had been brought back by Lennon’s subordinate, Dustin. 

Dustin was the chief commander of Lennon’s Europe base. At his level, he rarely participated in missions personally; most tasks were delegated to his subordinates. Only extremely important and confidential missions warranted his involvement. 

Rescuing a little girl was something Dustin had never done in his over a decade of serving Lennon. 

When he received the mission, he was completely stunned. 

He asked again uncertainly, and even after receiving Lennon’s confirmation, he still couldn’t quite believe it. 

Nikolas was a powerful force in Italy, but since Italy didn’t restrict firearms, their people wouldn’t be hindered there. Rescuing someone wouldn’t be difficult. 

He could send a reliable subordinate to lead and a few mercenaries and the mission would be secure. There was no need for the chief commander to personally step in. 

Despite his questions, Dustin always unconditionally obeyed Lennon’s orders. Since Lennon had given the command, he had no choice but to comply.
